The Podcast - Description of Fran

Good podcast, but that was hard to listen to, you know. You know.
Yeah good information but, you know, the guy kept, you know, saying you know a lot and it was not edited out. But still very interesting and good stories.

To anyone who has never met Fran, and has a stubborn dislike of him for some reason, I dare you to listen to Jerry Palmer's description of him, and the @OhioState story. If you don't at least have a partial change of heart, your not really human. Sorry.

I think fran is a great human being. Way, way above the average person. But when it comes to ripping on refs instead of in game coaching, berating media when they ask anything critical of him, having no grasp on how to play defense, and constantly talking about having a roster full of multi position players; that's where the disdain comes from. Just saying, its not off court things that make people not like him.

Hooper, thought the same thing. My God, knock it off I kept saying to myself.

A little along the lines of hearing the word “like” used way too much by kids these days. My daughters are guilty of it and it drives me nuts!

rather than listen to an hour plus podcast...can you summarize for us?
Fran good. Refs bad.

It’s a good listen. Talked about Alford and how he wanted to handle the PP situation correctly, but handled it the way the “higher ups” (possibly misquoting) and lawyers wanted him to. How he really liked SA and anyone who worked with SA would go to bat for him.

How Fran spoke with a kid before the @OSU game during shoot around for 10+ minutes. Fran took the kid onto the court and he got to high five the players while talking to Fran. How Fran is very defensive of players and definitely plays up their abilities. Fran treats each kid as his own kid and takes the criticism away from them and puts it on himself.

Talked a lot about how Angerer was always flipping him off and being inappropriate so that his video couldn’t be used or had to be edited. Brian Ferentz would do the same to a lesser extent. Talked about Haluska a little. They mentioned some old Fry and Ferentz stories and several other stories during Palmer’s tenure. Mentioned coming up on Street’s accident when he was local Iowa City reporter. So many stories over the years.

Personally, it was an amazing podcast Thank you to the OP for sharing. Big thanks to @dazhawk. The Haluska part made my night.

I was going to post that last night but thought maybe it was just me. Then I got to thinking because i did that a lot when i was younger, in fact in college my gf was a speech pathology major and well.... you know... corrected me of that. Maybe it's a western Iowa thing I tought last night with Palmer from Carroll area. I grew up in the Lakes area, and I remember Zach McCabe did it a lot as well and was from Sioux City. Because I was so bad at it and basically had speech aversion therapy to correct it, I now pick it up when hearing it and... you know... it drives me nuts!

Lolz. Are you writing from prison?

What are you basing this on? Have you ever spent more than 10 minutes with him? Have you ever even met him?

What other quasi-celebrities do you think are “way, way above the average person”?
