The question has been answered

If you want to slam someone, you should be accurate. I am almost sure Lester never had the scoring record, and maybe not Stokes? Ronnie was never a big scorer and only played about 3.5 seasons.
lol.....I'll let you look it up. Lester broke Don Nelsons record..Stokes' broke Lester's.
Ronnie's career point average is second highest for a 4 year player...he is 1.3 pts per game behind. Luka.
IF Ronnie had played the 16 games he missed in his senior season..chances are he would have been the first 4-year player to reach 2,000.

accurate.

and this was in the day of no shot clock.

I truly feel for those who never saw Ronnie play. His scoring ability was but a a component of his game.

His ball-handling, passing, elusiveness (a "4-corner" stall wasn't needed when he was on the court), his quickness on both ends of the floor, all just amazing to watch.

There is a reason Magic called him the best player and toughest opponent he ever faced while at MSU.

Thanks for correcting me. I was not trying to knock Ronnie, who is my favorite all-time Iowa player. I just didn't remember him as a big-time scorer. It was his all-round game, especially his ball handling, that made him great. EDIT after looking at the stats. My memory wasn't totally wrong. Ronnie never averaged 20 pts in a season. Because he contributed as a freshman, and most of the top Iowa players before him did not have freshman stats (they weren't eligible to be on varsity), he was Iowa's top scorer for his career.

Ronnie is one of the reason's I became a big Hawkeye BB fan, despite growing up in Ohio as a Buckeye fan. I was lucky enough to come to grad school at Iowa when Lute was hired to be the BB coach and Hayden the FB coach.

comparing generational stats....especially scoring is like comparing apples to oranges.

remember there was no shot clock back in Lester's days'...had teams been required to shoot it...I have a feeling he would have scored more. Plus there was no 3-point shot. Lester was the very best I've seen in 57 years of attending Iowa BB games at getting in the lane & stopping on a dime for a pull...well until he had two knee surgeries.

who remembers Iowa win over Georgetown to get to the final 4?

GTown scored to tie it 78-78 with like 1:50 to go..Iowa never gave up possession until Waite scored the winner with like 5 seconds left....thats one minute 45 seconds.. couldn't do that today...(whats that 3 1/2 possessions' with the 30 sec shot clock)..

G'Town didn't want to foul and back in those days you couldn't do all the handle checking, body stuff like they do today.

remember the 4 corners?
Michigan State stalling in the fieldhouse in the first half..score at halftime was like 8-6.

yes the game is quite different as the years go by.

Of course not. That is not the point. Devyn Marble complained that his father's number wasn't retired and there were posters here who agreed with him. The complaint by Devyn was if Garza's number was retired for besting his father's scoring record, Roy's should have been retired, too. Even Barta was reaching out to the Marble family.
Devyn did not say that. That’s all I need to know about you.

great you were ordained with a great dad - congrats. human perfection is a wonderful thing, wouldn't it be great if we all were.

did your dad also ordain you judge & jury of anyone else who might not be so perfect?

you started a thread ' a question has been answered ' when there wasn't a question in the first place ... you did so because of "your" push back and obviously your disdain toward another son who didn't have a 'perfect' Dad. BUT...he was still his Dad....who happen to have a great career at Iowa. As decorated as Luka? hell we all know the answer...one would have to be dumb not to know that.
You are one bitter bastard. You fail to recognize that I have a right to my opinion and this whole board is just one opinion after another. You, in fact, have not uttered one damn fact yourself. Only opinions and completely outlandish, ignorant and unfounded accusations. The reason for this thread is that when the discussions were being held there were those who thought that just scoring a lot of points was enough to get one's jersey retired. It is not otherwise Marble's jersey would have been retired. There is no way that someone of Roy Marble's talent or character belongs in the same discussion as Luka Garza.

There was a whole discussion about Devyn Twitting about how he wasn't going to watch anymore Iowa basketball games because Iowa had ''disrespected'' him and his Dad. This was about Luka's number being retired and Roy's was never retired. You figure it out if you can.

well thank you for that.
lol....apparently you didn't listen to dad very well....bitter bastard? did dad teach you that?
lol....ok carry on sonny.

Kakert....this is what you site is known for .. hasn't changed a bit...nothing but a cesspool.

Roy Marble was a really good basket ball player, and an all-time Hawkeye BB great. I don't understand why Greg Stokes' number would be retired before Roy's number. Both are IMO top-10 Hawkeye players all-time, although I don't think either would be on my first team. Luka now has to have the best argument as the greatest Iowa BB player ever. I say that with a little reservation, because he didn't lead us deep into the dance, and Ronnie Lester is still my all-time favorite Iowa player. I suspect that Roy's off-court behavior is why his number has not been retired. I don't know enough about that to know whether that really justifies the omission.
Maybe some of this

"Greg received his BA in Liberal Arts and minor in African-American Studies. While at the University of Iowa Greg broke several university records including All-Time Scorer, Career Field Goal percentage, and Career Blocked shots. Greg was a three- time All Big Ten selection. Greg was also a member of the 1983 United States Gold medal Pan America basketball team"

Perhaps the degree and national team participant held a lot of sway with the committee

So, now you resort to be a tattle tell. A snitch. A rat. hawk-i-bob, you can not back up your opinions, you make outlandish, ill informed bordering on outright lying, accusations and when outed for that, you go crying to Mr. Kakert. You are truly an inspiration. Yes, I learned from my father to call them as I see them. Did you learn to be a tattle tell from your pop?

You are not only a liar, but a disingenuous one at that.

Just how dense are you. First you claim that Devyn never said anything then I link the thread that has his tweet and now you call me a liar. Tell me, what was the whole thread about, genius?

Stokes beat Lesters record. Marble beat Stokes record. And Luka beat Marbles record. Thats a fact. The rest is opinion 😊

From what I remember about this rumor is that it was the wrestlers getting lit up and Ed Horton was lighting the fuse.
Horton was a large man, lol. I had heard the rumor but you can never know what's true or just garbage. I also heard Luke Recker fell off a bar table the night before the Indiana game but am pretty sure that was false

That is certainly appropriate. Such insignificant thoughts from such small minds.
I don't think asking about a rumor that I doubted being true makes me a "small mind". Someone actually answered anyway so enjoy posting your insignificant thoughts

I would love to have a slasher scorer like Roy on the team now. Ronnie Lester was an amazing player. My earliest Hawkeye memories are of that team.

You falsely stated Devyn Marble complained his father’s number wasn’t retired. He never said that! You lied about that. Maybe you misinterpreted what Devyn said. So, stupid or liar?

You just might be the only person who doesn't believe that Devyn felt that his father was disrespected because his number wasn't retired. Did you even read that thread that I linked for you? You have to be a Democrat with your faulty logic.

Why even bring this into it? You must be an idiot republican to come to this conclusion. Probably still believe that the election was stolen...
