Not to pour more gasoline on to this fire but here is the stat of the night.

No, not that we only had 20 rebounds and were out rebounded by 15.

No, not that we had more steals, blocks and less turnovers but lost by 31.

No, not that they had more assists than we had rebounds.

It's this...

Once again, we shot 66.7% (12-18) from the freaking free throw line. That will only SLIGHTLY lower our 295th ranking (67.2%) out of 364 D1 teams. I mean, at least that would be an outstanding 3 point percentage. No team that shot over 10 3s could hit that percentage, right?

Wisconsin shot 67.7% from 3 (21-31). That's right, we shot 1% worse from the ft line uncontested than they did from 3 (slightly) contested.

Poor FT shooting by good 3pt shooting team is frustrating---I would agree a player should take more pride in their game and concentrate and practice to develop the muscle memory to shoot FTS. However FTs shooting is not the major thing holding this team back.
They can't get stops is bottomline. If they do get a stop on a given shot, they don't get the rebound.

Stat of the night is Wisconsin scored 94 points in about 28 minutes of play

I would agree with you if this was a close game.... the stat of the game certainly was Wisky's three point shooting.

Oh, I know. That's really what happened but I just thought this stat was a little crazy. To see a team shoot a higher 3pt % having more attempts than a team shooting uncontested fts is nuts.

I looked last night and Iowa is currently nationally ranked:
2 in points per game
5 in assists per game
296 in ft %

There are 364 D1 teams.

Well I guess "slightly contested". Most of them there was no one within 5 ft of the shooter....

I’m not defending anyone, but after taking a few deep breaths, really deep breaths, Wisconsin had one of those games that tells me they’ll fall flat on their face in the next one.

I always come back to Celts/Lakers in the 80s. Game one and the Celts could not miss. After fretting about it for half of the game, I realized it wasn’t repeatable and not to put too much into it. Lose by 50, lose by one.

Wisky had a really good night vs a non-defensive team.

The player interviews after the game was very telling. If an opponent calls me out for "not interested in playing defense" I'd be embarrassed. And if I was their coach, I'd go nuclear the next few practices. I would only practice defense and free throws, oh and blocking out/rebounding. No shooting/offensive practice. Run their asses....
