The Toms, Brands and Ryan, respond to Kevin Dresser...

Sounds like the followed exactly what they set out to do. Follow the coaches poll. Imagine if they decided to suddenly match VA Tech with Iowa. Wouldn't NC State's Popolizio being saying "What the hell? I thought there was something already established here." NWCA's response would "Yeah, but we got this WWE drama going here, so we think that trumps any current rankings. Maybe you should've acted like an a-hole, and you woulda got your wish".

Pretty clear Dresser has a bone to pick and he's not afraid to look like an ass to pick it. Brands and Ryan have responses that are appropriate for a D1 coach in this situation. Are they supposed to say "Dresser's a damn liar". No, they simply said how the decision was made and let the smart folks figure out who looks like a dick.

As far as a dual with VA Tech. Yeah, I'm sure Brands doesn't care to give VA Tech a home and away situation. It's pretty clear why and has nothing to do with how tough VA Tech is.

I commend what Dresser has done there. They're a damn fine team and a dual with them would be tight. They have a pretty decent tournament team too, so wouldn't surprise me if they're not too many places below the Hawks at NCAA's. But, he's way out of line here with his comments.

I updated the post with a Tweet from Tom Ryan that seems to me to read as an implicit confirmation.

You are reading too much into things.

He could be saying it doesn't matter one stinking bit what Kevin Dresser wants because the contract trumps it. Doesn't have to be about what Brands wanted. Or maybe he is saying Brands and Cael wanted to wrestle but the contract trumped it.

Let's try to keep the TMZ-style BS off this forum and on the cesspool that is TheMat.com please.

It's neither reading too much into things nor TMZ. It's taking their actual statements and discussing them. They have every opportunity to flat deny it. They did not. Tom Ryan had two opportunities. Still no denial, and the post he's responding to is all about how there isn't an actual denial.

How so? All your article did was prove that VT wasn't in the conversation for Iowa, so how did Iowa "orange" out?

1. I didn't accuse Iowa of "oranging" out.

2. None of the statements ever actually say it didn't happen. Brands never said it didn't happen. Tom Ryan didn't deny it and he had TWO opportunities to deny it.

3. I gave the reason I thought that Brands refused to wrestle Va. Tech, if he in fact did: bad blood.

I'm with Vak. Ryan's post seems to me to confirm that Brands did bring up not wanting to wrestle VT, but also that what Brands wanted didn't play a factor in the decision.

According to your own article, there's nothing to deny. VT didn't have an option to go to Iowa City. Why does Brands have to block VT when they're not in the conversation.

Because there are now two different versions of how they got to that point. Dresser is claiming that the only reason they "went by the poll" is because the Brands are "pussies" and refused to wrestle him. Ryan is just saying they went by the poll. However, his statement doesn't necessarily conflict with Dresser. Why did the committee have to "vote to follow the contract" if that was always the plan? It just doesn't make logical sense. It would be like you and your family voting on whether you should inhale your next breath. That was always the plan, why would you vote on it?

It should be noted that Tom Ryan is now issuing a firm denial on the whole situation. I'll try to get another post up about it later today, possibly tomorrow.

Why the hell should Brands or Ryan have to get drawn into a pissing contest just because Dresser starts throwing out conspiracy BS. I'm glad Ryan decided to clean it up for you because you seemed to be going under the assumption that what Dresser said was fact just because the other guys decided to take the high ground and not directly say he is full of shit. You can't take Ryan's tweet and just assume he is referring to specifically what Brands may have wanted.

"So I think this all comes down to his history with the Virginia Tech. As Virginia Tech has risen in prominence, I have often wondered whether they would ever dual. But they never have."

They wrestled a dual in Ames at the 2012 National duals regional. Iowa won like 31-3 I think.

A denial takes until tomorrow yet your BS about how it's all true and they ducked VT you update right away. News flash...Dresser is full of crap...and you seem to be also.

Vak is about as pro Iowa as it gets. He is trying to stay impartial for the sake of his blog, but I don't believe he is trying to disparage Brands or Ryan one little bit.

So the new "Bowl Duals" turn into Cael's Folly. John Smith won't go unless he gets Penn St. Oklahoma and Illinois don't like it and drop out. Pac-12 doesn't like it and declines. And now DresserGate. As long as the Duals remain voluntary and without title implications you are going to have disgruntled coaches dictating the terms. You may remember JRob, Koll, and Brian Smith tried to change this.

and here is Tom Ryan putting an end to this nonsense.

Well, I can't figure out how to make it bigger. Asked if Brands said he wouldn't wrestle: "No, why would he make a statement about something he doesn't control. The national poll determined!"

The statements did not have to say it did not happen. Dresser was way out of line doing this publically and name calling. If he has a legt beef, there are ways to handle it. Dressers comments do not need to be addressed directly.
Duals are set. Win every match and earn your way to the big boy table. Bitching never solved anything. Dresser needs to shut up and coach.

Long ago being "crazy" was special. Nowadays, everyone is crazy. I might add that I "fly a starship". Just ignore me because if you gave me a penny for my thoughts I'd give you back some change. Go Hawks and kick the crap out of whoever your wrestling. Time for my med's.o_O:confused:

Give it up already. People don't have to respond to BS allegations and rumors. Not responding has nothing to do with whether the rumor is true or not.

When asked if Brands said he didn't want to wrestle VagTech, Ryan said this: "No. Why would he make a statement about something that he doesn't get to control? The national poll determined!"

He also said NC State was closer to jumping Okie State that Vag Tech was to NC State.

Anybody know if Brands has come out publicly and denounced any involvement in the assassination of JFK? He's had plenty of opportunities to deny he had anything to do with it. Why hasn't he just stated publicly that he didn't do it? We should take that as a sign that he's hiding something. Better get somebody to look into this.

Are you sure YOU didn't read TOO much into things?

You said in your blog, "I think Brands holds a grudge and refuses to do anything to benefit that school or that program. It's petty and vindictive."

So I'm asking you plainly and honestly where did you get that belief? Did Brands say anything like that to you? Or anyone you know personally that can back you up that heard him say it?

A lawyer usually has all his facts lined up before he makes any statements. Do you? Or is it all guessing game stuff?

Your blog reads more like someone trying to guess the outcome of a Mystery program on TV. Trying to GUESS all the twists and turns in the plot before they happen. Usually people guess Zig when the plot goes Zag.

It also seems like some kind of High School gossip. Is Johnny taking Mary to the dance? Well he didn't say he WASN'T so.......maybe he is. but his best friend won't say he is So...........

I think it's an interesting story you're reporting on, but I think you've gotten too excited by it all and have lost perspective. I think you're out over your skis too far on it.

After reading Coach Ryan's tweets..........it seems like he pretty much lays the whole issue to rest. Nothing nefarious going on at all. Much ado about nothing. Carry on.

Move along now, nothing here to see.
Gonna jump up and down at MSG every time a Hokie gets drummed. Nothing personal guys, just poor leadership.

Who was the poster who got Jim Zalesky fired up a few years ago when Iowa hosted Oregon State in the National Duals? He later wrote a letter to Jim, apologizing for his behavior(assuming I have the story correct). Anyways, we should send that guy(and some oranges) to Ann Arbor this weekend to get under Dresser's skin.
