The Top Public Golf Courses in Each State According to Everyday Players
With over 16,000 golf courses in America, finding one that is accessible, affordable, and stellar is like finding a needle in a haystack. However, Golfer’s Choice lists do all the work spotlighting the game’s best playgrounds for everyday players. Created by recreational golfers, for recreational golfers, find out which greens in your state have been deemed the best by players like you.

How Was This List Made?
While other ‘Best Of’ lists are created by industry insiders with extraordinary access, The GolfPass Golfers’ Choice lists are created by recreational golfers’ 275,000-course reviews on GolfNow reflecting playing experiences across ages, handicaps, and budgets.
“Golfers’ Choice 2025 is a great resource for finding public courses – often very affordable options – in all corners of the country,” said Jason Scott Deegan, managing editor of GolfPass.

Here are the highest-rated courses in each state, except Alaska, which did not receive enough reviews to meet the Golfers’ Choice criteria.

Have you been to Pebble? I went to the U.S. Open a few years ago at Pebble. It was my favorite sporting event I’ve ever attended. Even over NBA finals and the World Series.

I'm glad you enjoyed it; however, I don't find watching someone play golf entertaining actually I think it would be a waste of time.

At $650 a loop, I would find any golf course hard to enjoy. A ridiculous sum of $ to play golf.
My favorite factoid re:Oebbke is that the first 12 or 13 greens there have less square footage than the 6/14 double green at The Old Course St. Andrew’s…

Pebble is a wonder course to play. Especially a couple months before they’re hosting a tournament. You want challenging conditions? Play that course while the greens keepers are prepping for the pros. Oof!
