The Tragedy of Covid

Even if our median IFR estimates are lower than some previous calculations, this does not mean that COVID-19 could not have had an impact on the non-elderly at the population level, especially when the number of infected people was high. As shown in Appendix Table 3 if 100% of non-elderly people globally were to be infected without having the benefit of vaccination or other potentially beneficial interventions that were developed and implemented later in the pandemic, a total of 4.7–5.3 million deaths of people 0–69 years old are expected worldwide according to our IFR estimates. This includes 32–98 thousand deaths of people 0–29 years old. Three years after the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, the large majority of the global population has indeed been infected at least once (Ioannidis, 2022) and an estimated 44% had been infected even before the advent of the Omicron wave in fall 2021 (COVID-19 Cumulative Infection Collaborators, 2022). If we assume half of the global non-elderly population infected without the benefit of vaccination or other beneficial interventions, this corresponds to 2.3–2.6 million deaths in people 0–69 years old, including 16–49 thousand deaths of people 0–29 years old.
LOL! You're an idiot.

It amazes me that there are still people like you out there that are still ignoring the science and refuse to admit that you got it so wrong.

So we got it wrong THIS TIME....what happens next time when such measures will be fvcking necessary? Oh, I know...morons will use this time as justification for not locking down, etc. when it might really matter. We got sooooo fvcking lucky it was 1000th of the Spanish flu.

Personally it probably wouldn't be a bad thing, because it would help cull the stupidity out of the population...but life would really suck for years after for those that survived.

The outcomes of these measures were far reaching. Utterly devastating to some people.

They've lost credibility. Of course people will use this as justification. That's what happens when you get things so wrong.

Ionnadis lowballs his data

A meta-analysis of ALL sources indicates:

Covid: 20-30 yrs, 0.01 (20x higher than flu)
Covid: 40-50 yrs, 0.1

0.01% at age 25) but increases progressively to 0.4% at age 55

You continue to cherry-pick data sources that reinforce what you want to see.
I'm sure you can find individual sources that show flu is much higher or lower - here you are comparing ONE source to a CDC number that represents the summary of ALL sources.

When you compare apples-apples, Covid is 10x-20x worse in the populations you're referring to.

They've lost credibility to the morons..... people that really wouldn't be missed from a genetic standpoint (like I said, would actually be good for our species if they died), the sad thing is that their kids are innocent and shouldn't be held liable for their parents stupidity.

So the people that got it right are "morons" and deserve to die?

The ones that would use this one as justification to not listen for the next one are indeed morons and yes itwould be better for the long term viability of our species if they died.

And they didn't get it right because they actually had better information or something valid, they only got it right due to dumb luck, and only AFTER the fact, which makes it even worse because they are too stupid to understand this.

The obese and overweight make up a majority of our population, let's not act like it's some marginal group accounting for a dramatically disproportionate amount of the hospitalizations and deaths

Judging from the work-out and dieting threads we've seen on here, probably >75% of the posters on this board fit the bill....

“Far left Democrat” is really pretty close to a far right Republican…it is best to be somewhere in the middle lanes of life as opposed to the far left or far right lanes.

Horseshoe theory is bullshit.

Millions of people died from a disease that spread like crazy through the population. The takeaway from that? Haha we were right, you were wrong, neener neener. Plandemic! You were fooled haha.

It’s everyone’s( ok, not everyones) choice how to eat, how to be fit. It’s what you value and the choices you make

Thank God we aren't freaking out and locking down.

We've been saying for years that people need to lead healthier lifestyles. How many of these severe cases would be avoided?

At least 400,000 if (any other president not named trump) would have been in charge.

In three years 1.1 million out of 335 million Americans (0.003) have died ‘with’ covid. It was never worth it to destroy the economy and (further) divide the populace.

But here we are.

It's really stunning to hear leftists refer to cons as cultists when looking back on the covid hysteria.

It will be over my Easter
Kids can’t get it
It doesn’t spread in schools
They were old they would have died soon anyway
Staying home doesn’t stop Covid from spreading
It’s just a cold
Vaccines don’t prevent death
Masks reduce oxygen
hydroxychloroquine
Hospitals get paid more for covid deaths

“ONE” source? Wtf are you talking about? It was a peer-reviewed study that compiled seroprevalence data from forty sources. Your “10x-20x worse” is a pathetic attempt at keeping fear levels elevated.

This will NEVER be over!
Kids will spread it in schools!
Nursing home residents must die alone and afraid so they don’t give it to other residents who are scared, alone and dying!
You have to close your business or people will die!
It’s worse than the Spanish Flu because it’s novel!
Vaccines will stop the pandemic!
Vaccines won’t stop you from getting covid but will stop you from giving it to othe....no, wait. It will stop you from being hospitalized and dying!
Winter after winter of severe illness and death!
Masks will stop aerosolized viruses!
NOTHING will work except vaccines (or other therapeutics from Pfizer et al)!
Hospitals will be overwhelmed!

The tragedy of Covid was that a large number of Americans would rather watch 1,000,000+ of their fellow countrymen die than be inconvenienced with things that would minimize the illness.

And that people who don't understand science now don't trust science, because they were told not to by people who don't understand science.
Does that include the Dems would not take a Trump vaccine prior to election day 2020, then wanted to force it on those who don't even need it?

What is the science of injecting a still experimental drug into someone who as virtually no risk from a virus?
