The truth

Platforms such as X have a civic responsibility to vigorously fact check their content. If, like porn, their content violates those standards it could, not necessarily should, be censored. Unfortunately social platforms, like X, seem to have embraced lies and misinformation as a business model to drive their business.

Kennedy made those comments 62 years ago when what we saw and read was provided by 3 networks and major newspapers with editorial standards.

Now we have people who, for their own reasons, are tweeting false information about hurricane victims, for example, that are hurting Americans.

Section 230 is getting slowly chipped away in the last few years by courts. Far right and far left want to end it.

There has to be a viable solution somewhere.

Ah yes thank god only 3 outlets get to have free speech. The past was so much better. Asshat.

He's blatantly trying to become a member of Trump's cabinet.
Then I guess we can complain when that happens and the government attempts to stifle speech. Remember when everyone on here said private businesses could do whatever they wanted, like fire employees for not getting vaxxed, and if you didn't like it, quit? If you don't like Musk running X, then don't subscribe to it. I don't.

What an insanely stupid post to excuse Musk and Trump. Be better.

Point to where I mentioned "Trump". I don't even like Musk...dudes a loon, but y'all--instead of addressing Hilary, a prominent political figure's comments--went immediately to deflection about Musk and X. Why doesn't the left start their own social media platform like the MAGAs did? Seriously, why is it private companies can do whatever they want and if you don't like it, don't "subscribe", "purchase", "work there", etc., as long as it's based on a message you agree with?

Because Musk is clearly and painfully trying to turn X into a Republican platform for Trump's administration. It's ok to call this out.

Like FB, who's doing the "fact checking" and how can it be trusted? Personally, I don't trust any of it, but if some tinfoil hat wants to post about QAnon or the earth is flat, that's their right.

I'd rather get my news from an RSS feed (cutting out all the algorithms) and I'd LOVE to ditch FB and just go back to MySpace where I can post pics of the kiddos soccer game, upload my favorite tune, and find my old high school gf w/o all the manipulative algorithms.

Because X can assume - somewhat correctly - that the population is becoming dumber by the day and can’t or won’t judge for themselves?

FB can do whatever they want. As far as I'm aware their owners aren't trying to Musk their way into the WH.

Fine, but you don't think the left ALSO wants to "control the messaging?" My point is you can't call one out w/o the other.
Now you're pulling a bins? What Leftwing media site has so blatantly tried to become a Goebbels level propaganda machine for the WH?

If Trump won and Elon became part of his cabinet, would Elon sell off X or at least divulge himself of any control over it?

Ofc not. We all know he would use it as a state arm of propaganda.
No…we don’t all know that…but we should guard against it and scrupulously review anything we see on X going forward.
I think I still have my jaundiced eye lying around here somewhere.

Trump has already said that he wants to make Elon part of his cabinet. It's seriously dangerous stuff going on.

But these prominent business owners political influence and "wants" are okay, though? Michael Bloomberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Penny Pritzker, George Soros, Marc Benioff.

None of them are being promised a position in her cabinet. This isn't hard, Alaska.

Now provide examples of Goebbels level propaganda from the right, or do all sites not embracing “progressive” ideas qualify?

Clearly it is for you. I'm 100% certain Penny, the eventual Secretary of Commerce, wasn't offered a cabinet position during Obama's campaign. It's just worked out that way. ...you act like Musk is some sort of political anomaly.

99% of people have never heard of Penny. I'm guessing at least 90% have heard of Musk. Elon also owns one of the largest media platforms of the world.

Again, yours Bins-ing of this is myopic.

Republicans didn't start Twitter. One of the leaders of the fascist wing of the party bought it without caring how much money he lost on it and has proceeded to massively devalue the platform. And the same is true of Truth Social. Anyone who put money into that has lost crap tons of money on that.

He is, though.

The guy can’t be President, but he can easily buy one, if there’s a willing partner.

He’s realized this over the past year. Unfortunately it’s coincided with his crashing personal life.
I think of the guy as a sort of unique mad genius. Often interesting , huge intellect, sort of a social misfit, child breeder, and ketamine abuser.
At least he’s open.
Some progressives must have really ticked him off.

Leader of the “fascist wing” of the party?
Damn you sound mad.
Stupid AND mad is no way to go through life.
Get hold of yourself.
