Ive been at both Mirgorod and Poltava airbases. There are no protective structures. The bases were in shockingly bad condition.
Both bases had a US connection being the operational bases for Operation Frantic in WW2 where US airmen were stationed so bombers could fly in from the west, hit Gerrmany and land, not having the fuel to go back.
The Americans and locals interacted well until Stalin knew they didnt need US help and did not give warning of a major airstrike coming from the Germans. He also stopped friemdly relations with Americans.
There were 2 economic collapses in the 90s. The first was after the communist collapse. The 2nd a few years later. Citizens stripped all buildings of value. Everything. Also did this to state and collective farms. Even today manhole covers are a target making night walking dangerous. They will go months without being replaced. Bad on cars too.
