When the calendar turns to November
With a load Hawk fans 70,000 or more
Than the old building holds when she’s empty
The opponents all knew they were ‘bout to be chewed
And possibly could be dismembered!
The stadium was the pride of the Iowa side
Looking awesome from upgrades aplenty.
As football teams go, it was better than most
With Hawkeyes and a Captain well-seasoned
The Huskers sure knew that their chances were few
When they left fully loaded for Iowa City
The Hawkeyes were playing for the West on this day
With 8 wins and trophy as bounty
But with KJ and Terry on the sidelines with Sam
The Hawkeyes knew they were thinning
When Spencer and Coop had to join the hurt group
It was tougher to think about winning
When the quarter break came, the old Captain came in sayin'
"Fellas, we’re down 10 to nothing”
As halftime arrived, and the D had caved in, he said
"Fellas, we’ve got to do something!"
Padilla and crew sure played hard but they knew
That West Champs just might not be their prize
And later that night when the clock had run out
