I think this whole "controversy" is rather stupid but there is a big difference between trash talking in the heat of the game and gloating after the outcome is determined.
LSU and Iowa players were throwing up the 3 goggles all game after made 3s. A couple LSU players did the Cena thing after made 3s in the first half. Why isn't anyone talking about that? Because it's not a big deal. It's the middle of the game. Players trash talk and celebrate all the time during the game.
Gloating after the game is kinda scummy and classless.
If you watched The Last Dance, Jordan gave a great talk about gloating vs trash talk after BJ Armstrong (played for the Hornets at the time) hit a shot to seal a Charlotte upset over the Bulls in the playoffs and talked trash to the bulls players. Jordan was asked if he was worried about the Hornets after the upset; they seemed pretty confident. "Anyone can trash talk when the game's over," Jordan said (paraphrasing). "That's not confidence. That's desperation. I'm only worried about the guys who are confident enough to talk sh&# when they're down ten and not up ten."
