The wind was stupid. Liked Levar Woods out there with a streamer before the game trying to get a feel for the wind.
Was it me or who else kept thinking fumble or flags on the field? Ended up being flying debri.
Once Molly McGrath squatted to push the car I lost track of anything any announcer said. Ha. I will say I was listening quite hard for mistakes and Mark Jones made a ton of them. You name it, spots, down and distance, names. So it’s not just Beth. Love me some Mark Jones though.
They ran 2 plays on our side of the field all day long. 1 was a tackle for loss and the other was the interception to Hooker.
Maybe the fastest game I can remember in a long time. It was less than 3 hours.
Just total domination by the defense. That Maryland rushing attack had no shot. The Hawks owned the line of scrimmage all day long.
Iowa ran 77 plays, Maryland ran 39. Unreal.
1st shut out since Illinois 2016.
Great use of timeouts today by Ferentz having us kick and punt with the wind.
Great to see us control the clock with the wind being as it was. The 1st quarter we had the ball for 13:40 of it. 84 to 7 in yards rushing
Banwart last week played in garbage time, this week he’s back to splitting quarters with Ferguson.
I mentioned in the game thread that the cool kids got to vote and said let Miguel kick some damn FGs. He was perfect as he usually is even into that nightmare of a breeze. Hats off to Rastetter as well on the big punts. 2 punts 46.5 yd average and they landed on the 10 and 6 respectively. Nice of KF to mention how big those 2 were at the end.
At halftime the stats were insanely in favor of Iowa. 15-3 1st downs. 23 to 7 in TOP. 205 to 46 yards, 137 to 17 rushing yards. People were worried. For Maryland that was 16 carries – 17 yards.
Their first big play came inside of 10 minutes to play.
I thought Austin Kelly played well. He ended up on his back a lot but he always made his blocks.
At one point I looked at the stats at the end of the 3rd quarter and they had 3 1st downs and 18 yds rushing. Defense just kicked ass
Nate with not a great day and not really a balanced offense today but with the wind and they way were controlled the LOS I don’t care.
NO PENALTIES
Iowa still no 100 yard rusher but I don’t think any of them care. Just keep winning.
Lots of guys in on offense towards the end but the defense remained the same. I think coaches wanted them to finish and get the shutout. Even Spencer Petras with a pass.
Joe Ludwig with some playing time today as the backup full back on special teams for the injured Brady Ross
Not a lot of input this week, but it don't take away from how dominate they were.
1st quarter
15:00 LUDWIG ON KICKOFF TAKES A NASTY SHOT AND ENDS UP ON HIS BUTT. GOT TO GET STRONGER.
13:50 NICE BLOCK BY AUSTIN KELLY. RIGHT AFTER THIS PLAY, THE BALL STARTS ROLLING AWAY. LOL
NEXT PLAY – THEY CALLED IT A LATTERAL AND IT SURE LOOKED LIKE NATE THREW THE BALL FROM THE 38 AND EASLEY REACHED BACK TO GRAB IT AT THE 39. THAT’S FORWARD NOT BACKWARD.
NEXT PLAY – JET SWEEP TO ISM, GREAT BLOCKS BY SMITH AND SARGENT TO MAKE THAT 1ST DOWN RUN POSSIBLE.
11:55 JACKSON PUSHES THE B1G 2ND LEADING TACKLER WATSON 10 YARDS AND THEN PUTS HIM ON HIS BUTT
8:30 TJ SEALS IT OFF SO IKM CAN GET POSITIVE YARDAGE. KELLY ENDS UP ON HIS BUTT AGAIN BUT MADE THE BLOCK.
:45 NATE HAD TJ IN THE ENDZONE BUT DIDN’T WANT TO PULL THE TRIGGER. BUT I ALWAYS LIKE THE POSITIVE, GREAT STIFF ARM BY NATE THERE ON THE SCRAMBLE BUT I’D LIKE TO SEE HIM STEP OUT OF BOUNDS INSTEAD OF TRYING TO RUN OVER A LB IN THAT SITUATION.
2nd quarter
15:00 HESSE SHOWING WHY HE’S STARTING. JUST PLAYING REALLY WELL THIS YEAR
NEXT PLAY – GREAT COVERAGE BY RILEY. HOW IMPRESSED ARE WE WITH OUR BACKUP CB’S.
NEXT PLAY THEY PUNT, NOTHING BIG ON THE PLAY BUT WATCH PAULSEN ON THE SIDELINE AS THE BALL COMES ROLLING CLOSE. NOT SURE WHAT THAT IS ABOUT BUT ITS FUNNY.
13:35 YOU COULD HEAR AUSTIN KELLYS PADS POPPING ON TV AND THE CROWD HEARD IT TO. GREAT ROAR AFTER THAT. AGAIN AUSTIN LOOKS LIKE GETS THE WORST OF IT BUT HE MAKES THE BLOCK GETTING SARGENT POSITIVE YARDS.
10:25 4th AND 3, WE THROW SIMPLE PASS TO FANT BUT TJ AND EASLEY MAKE IT HAPPEN WITH GREAT BLOCKS.
9:03 DILLON DOYLE LOOKING LIKE JOSEY JEWELL ON THE TACKLE ON THE KICKOFF
5:05 GREAT SPEED BY AJ GETTING THE TFL
NEXT PLAY – WE ARE NOT RUSHING THE PASSER HERE BUT HOOKER WITH GREAT COVERAGE AND NICE SKILLS. WHAT A STEAL HE HAS BEEN.
1:40 3RD AND 9 AND NATE ON THE DRAW FOR 13 YDS. I LIKE IT, BUT PROBABLY NOT VERY OFTEN. MADE POSSIBLE BY THE MOTION OF NICK EASLEY, IT BROUGHT THE LB OUT AND THEN YOU CAN SEE THE LB GRAB AND HOLD EASLEY AS HE GOES DEEP. ALSO DUE TO GOOD BLOCKS BY RENDER AND SARGENT.
:50 THEY GET #9 FOR HANDS TO THE FACE ON BANWART, COULD HAVE GOTTEN THE RIGHT DE AS WELL AS HE GRABBED JACKSON’S FACEMASK AND PULLED IT DOWN
:13 WHAT CAN YOU SAY, GREAT THROW, GREAT CATCH, SMITH IS BECOMING SOMETHING SPECIAL.
