Love the ass whipping the Hawks put on Nebraska. No other team do I despise more than them.

Thought Matt Hankins was exceptional in his first start.

Nebraska had 8 or more on the LOS for the majority of the game. Didn't make a difference.

Kannell commented on how enthusiastic Nebraska was at halftime and how they were playing like they were unbeaten. That shit changed quickly.

Geno Stone entered the game and he was really strong. I remember Kirk saying earlier in the year that they had to start getting him into the game and he didn’t disappoint.

I believe this is the fewest amount of audibles we have called all year. Only 3, 2 by Nate.

Noah Fant had his best game of the year when it came to blocking IMO.

What a 3rd quarter. Iowa averaged almost 12 yards a play.

Iowa scored 6 TDs in less plays in the 2nd half than the 2 TDs in the first half.

1st half TD drives 26 plays, 14 points

2nd half TD DRIVES 24 plays, 42 points

Almost all our kickoffs were through the endzone. Curious if this was by design in game prep thinking spielman was going to be returning kicks.

RCJM should have the stats, but our kick off coverage has been outstanding all year long

Probably my longest play by play of the year because it was just so damn much fun watching it.

I never saw any signs of Iowa letting up or taking the foot off the gas on either side of the ball. KF was the only thing that held them back from putting up 70 as he’s all class.

Iowa finishes their season leading the nation in Interceptions.

Tough to say it was a great year when there is 5 losses, but complete ass kickings of Ohio State and Nebraska rank this season pretty high in my book.

1st QTR
15:00 Hesse actually almost intercepts this ball before he picks it up and runs it in. I’ve watched the play several times. I think maybe the arm is going forward before it comes out but I just don’t see how they could overturn that call.

14:57 If that was a pass on 2nd and 8 for Nebraska, it was going to be a huge sack for Josh Jackson. Hesse takes the T 2 yards into the backfield right into the path of the runner

14:20 Rugamba comes in for bower for the Nickel. Actually really good coverage but the ball is thrown high and behind and receiver makes good adjustment. Taylor right there as well. They earned that 1st down.

13:41 It’s easy to see what they like in Hankins. Not much size to him but he gets his hat in there and makes a great tackle.

9:39 Bower and Jewell almost run into each other on Nebraska’s 1st TD pass.

9:00 Wadley with a long run to get us out into respectable territory. Hockensen and Wirfs completely remove the DE and LB from the picture and Welsh seals up the DT. Great blocking up front.

7:46 Made little difference as Stanley was going to Vandeberg right from the get go, but Noah Fant was being mugged by the LB in the middle of the field.

7:15 Fant puts a DE in the ground.

6:35 Dam is James Daniels an athlete. WR screen to ISM and JD is down field in the blink of an eye.

4:53 Noah Fant twice in one drive puts a guy on his ass. This time a CB. His best blocking effort of the year in my opinion.

4:12 Brandin Smith with a great block for ISM. SO much young talent on the field.

2:20 Wadley’s TD run on 3rd and 8 was so sweet. If that don’t work, the lounge erupts with conservative play calling. Wieting with a great effort block on this play, loses balance, crawls forward and gets a nice block on the safety to keep Akrum clean.

1:40 Taylor comes in and makes a big hit. Then he gets up right away and runs back to his safety position, then looks over at the sidelines and then goes down. He didn’t seem hurt until he looked over at the sidelines. He sort of points to his knee but he wasn’t limping at all. Maybe the sideline told him to go down if he was hurt. But after they looked him he got up and walked off the field with no limping at all and never returned. Any word on what the injury was.

2nd
15:00 Nieman on the blitz and plants the RB. Pretty sweet tackle.

12:40 A little easier to knock a guy down with Ben Nieman on his ankles, but Stone brings the lumber on a hit. Really like his future.

11:20 Bazata with the stop on the fake FG. Has to feel good being from Nebraska with no offer as he does the Blackshirts cross arms. Going to miss his steady play. Great play all around. Jackson realized it right away and was free to make the stop before the first down and Josey had great coverage on the TE that slipped out.

11:18 Render with a pancake and Weiting another good block. Not sure why he doesn’t p lay more but when he does including last year against Michigan he seems to block really well. Jackson had the LB 11 yards down field as well.

7:14 Kind of an odd play but this was the point that I really thought Iowa had this game. Nebraska picks up a 1st down when it’s 7-7 but 9 guys were in on that tackle.

6:25 Jackson clearly thinks he’s got help deep on the 2nd TD pass to Morgan. He appears to be playing zone. Gervase goes with the inside WR leaving Morgan all alone.

4:34 Great blocking by Jackson and Reynolds to allow Wadley a hole. Noah Fant 10 yards down field with a block that gets him another 10 yards. This is the play that ISM picks up the fumble. Afterwards he goes to the sidelines and a coach/assistant with a beard and a hat is congratulating him. Any idea who that is? Also on this play, this is probably the best play production we have had all year after an apparent audible from Stanley.

2:00 Jackson with a violent block planting the DT.

3rd QTR
15:00 ISM’s kick return for TD had some great blocking all around. I thought Stone’s block was a pretty obvious call. My favorite on this play was IKM. Good block to start out and then shoots out of a cannon and gets the last guy at about the 15 and springs ISM for the rest of the way.

13:05 Drake picks up 1 yard. Watch the replay of the guy Hockensen is blocking. He grabs his jersey around the neck and drags him to the ground and the guy starts kicking the pile.

12:26 Wadley short TD run, Render with a monster pancake block on the pull. Also Hockensen completely wrecks the safety and James Daniels somehow gets the NT turned around and plants him behind the LOS. It was a thing of beauty.

10:25 Butler and Ross with a nice double team blitz pick up allowing Stanley to get deep to Fant.

Next play Daniels and Welsh destroy the interior line of Nebraska on Butler’s TD run.

9:08 Things start getting chippy. Nebraska safety slaps ISM in the helmet twice and then grabs it, no penalty.

8:38 Wadley’s 3rd TD run. James Daniels gets to the MLB, then turns him around and pancakes him. Also, Fant with a key seal to get Wadley free. Also, watch Easley, not a great block but this went on most of the 2nd half. The guy he is blocking spends more time raising their arms hoping for a flag than they do trying to get off a block. Great reaction by Wadley at the 5 yard line. He turns around as if to think there is a flag because he shouldn’t be that clear. Nope, that’s just blackshirt defense.

Ensuing kickoff, Iowa coaches wanted a flag for whatever Ojemudia was involved in.

7:47, Hankins with blanket coverage on Peirsen-EL, love the shove he gave him after he breaks up the pass.

Next play, they punt, Amani Jones rushes into the 3 blockers, at the end of the punt return, you can’t see it really great but watch at about the Iowa 45 yard line as Vandeberg runs by, you see a guy go flying to the ground thanks to Jones. Great hustle.

6:56 This is what we are going to miss next year from Wadley. Stretch play but he has the speed to get outside the contain. Not sure we have that next year.

5:35 Short gain for Wadley, but big man on top keeps driving him into the ground, another guy gets involved and Wadley gets up with no helmet and I think he’s saying they punched him.

5:00 that pick could have really helped Jackson’s Thorpe award. Great play regardless.

4:25 What a 1st step by Anthony Nelson. Cannot wait to see how he improves next year.

3:16 Bazata is double teamed and manages to push both guard/center 5 yards into the pocket forcing Lee to throw before he was wanted to.

2:35 Neb goes trips right, Jackson doesn’t follow Morgan, he stays on weak side. Jewell lined up with Morgan with Stone behind him. They try a pass to RB in the flat and Jackson with a great stop to prevent the 1st down.

1:42 they were going play action but Morgan false started. Bazata was free and headed for Lee.

1:25 great pump fake by Stanley, freezes the guy that just misses the ball on the out to Fant. Fant starts his dive at the 3 and they flag him. Not sure why they didn’t bring that ball back to the 18 yard line. Glad they didn’t as the rule is stupid to begin with. Kirk didn’t care for it much either.

Ensuing kickoff, @rivercityjassman JR knocks a ball 77 yards in the air, getting a touchback while kicking off from the 20. Wind or no wind, that’s impressive as hell.

1:08 Jewell with the great read on the screen pass, also Jansen knocks a blocker on his ass with a pretty good shot from the back.

4th QTR
14:45 This is a prime example of the difference in the game. As we got push all game long, they just couldn’t move our guys off the LOS. Lattimore completely stone walls the guard clogging up the whole play. Also, for a small as he is, Hankins loves getting his nose in there and making a hit.

14:05 Jewell with the pick but props to Anthony Nelson for causing it. Abused the Tackle. More dirty husker play at the bottom or the pile as they are cheap shotting Jewell. AJ gets a little redemption on the guy on top of Josey with a shot to the back of his helmet. AJ and Jewell are discussing what went on on the sidelines after the first play by Iowa (short run by T. Young).

13:15 He has not blocked well this season but I have to keep pointing out how well Fant blocked this game. He gets a chip on the DE and then takes the LB 10 yards down field. Brady Ross also with a very painful blocks right at the knees of the safety. That player laid on the ground and I didn’t listen to the announcers much but it must have been really warm as the medical staff came out wearing shorts. That kind of surprised me.

12:35 Ref has to remove a Nebraska hand from IKM’s facemask. No flag?

Next play, hard to see but looks like CB is taking a few shots at ISM’s head at the bottom of the screen.

11:00 Just watch James Daniels, it’s a thing of beauty. He is nasty. Also, has to be frustrating for the LB away from the play and Hock is not giving him an ounce of let up. Iowa just kept coming all day. AWESOME!

Next play, Again JD pancakes the DT.

9:24 Not sure what was more impressive, Miguel’s touchback from the 20 or this touchback into the wind. What a year he had. Great scene right before the 1st play showing a half empty stadium in Lincoln but a lot of black still in the crowd.

Next play, Jewell almost decapitates the Nebraska RB, offers to help him up and then looks as if to say F U if you don’t want help up.

8:05 Max Cooper on the punt return I assume auditioning for next years gig. Mends knocks a guy on his ass right before the tackle.

Next play, Kirk being all class puts in a lot of subs. Weigers, Cooper and Brandin Smith. Austin Kelly, Pekar, and interestingly the only OL to swap out was center and Cole Banwart. The result, the longest run of the day by an Iowa RB. LOL. Austin Kelly Pancakes a LB, and Render with a great block to spring IKM. Best part of the play, 65 yards down field with the WR’s and IKM are our starting freshman tackles. Still no quit.

6:38 I believe this is Tyler Wiegers first audible of his career. Goes for a TD. Maybe Stanley should get with him on what he sees. J

6:28 Our mercy D is Gholston and AJ at DE, Lattimore and Jansen at DT. Welch at MLB, Mends and Ward at OLB. Rugamba and Ojemudia at CB, Milani (maybe 1st time playing) and Stone at Safety.

5:55 Great play by Manny on Morgan to get the tip. Welch on the return and MIlani with a good block down field.

Next play, our new offensive players are Shaun Beyer and Wisnewski at TE but that was it. Kind of surprised we didn’t get a few more offensive lineman in the game. They had earned it at that point I would have thought. Oh well, teaching them to finish as they have had a rough year I guess.

3:01 Jake Hulett only new player to get on the field

1:45 Jansen with a nice hit on Lee, almost gets the sack

Next play, AJ treats the RB like a toy he doesn’t like. Also Welch gets held and then gets a cheap shot thrown at him by the tackle.

:33 last play of the game, Welch fights off his block and plants the receiver.

6:25 Jackson clearly thinks he’s got help deep on the 2nd TD pass to Morgan. He appears to be playing zone. Gervase goes with the inside WR leaving Morgan all alone.

Gervase was in a no win situation on that play. One Husker receiver was cutting open to the posts and Morgan was cutting open toward the pylon. Looked like a safety read play by Tanner Lee. Lee waited for Gervase to break to the center (toward the post receiver) and Lee immediately pivoted and pitched it over Jackson. All in all, a good play that was executed well by the Huskers and a good read and reaction by Lee.

Ensuing kickoff, @rivercityjassman JR knocks a ball 77 yards in the air, getting a touchback while kicking off from the 20. Wind or no wind, that’s impressive as hell.

If there was any doubt that the Huskers had thrown in the towel, this play confirmed it IMO. You probably saw this on tape dawg (and hopefully my recollection is accurate) but there appeared to be a Husker back on that kick that he just let the KO land inside the 5 and bounce into the end zone. I mean, that's the red flag of surrender. How the hell do you explain it? Iowa KO from their own 20 and you allow a touchback? Should have called the game right there.

I wasn't blaming Gervase, I think he did what he thought was best, actually Neiman and Jackson were in the same location so even if they were in zone, one of those 2 were not where they were supposed to be.

Also, I think Nebraska threw in the towel after it was 35-14. They started throwing cheap shots and I'm actually disappointed there wasn't more than a few personal foul flags.

Thanks dawg. I looked forward to your post-game break down every week. A lot of interesting observations that are easily missed just viewing in real time, especially after the alcohol kicks in. A few unique stats as well. Hands down one of the best features on this board.

Noticed several nice blocks by Fant as well. Hope to see him as the complete package next year, if he puts in the work. Future Mackey award winner.......

That initial play of the game that was called incomplete. I don't see how they overturned that.

Completely agree, In my opinion, the replay official (once again) used his judgment to determine what HE THOUGHT the call should be. It was not irrefutable!

I don't think the initial call was obviously right or wrong, so the call on the field should stand.

Yeah, things changed quickly....when our starting nose guard, who had 2 or 3 tackles for loss in the first 5 minutes of the game, got injured early in the 3rd quarter and never came back in the game. He was throwing your center into the backfield. Sucks, because it was an even game at halftime. Losing him for the game hurt...bad.

Nice troll effort. Yes, getting spanked 56-14 is due to one person being injured. If that's truly the case, nice program you have there where losing one guy gets you boatraced 49-0 by a 7-5 team. Nebraska was waiting to lay down and quit at the first sign of adversity. It started when the Huskers ran into the punter in the second quarter ahead 14-7 and didn't stop until the game was over. 49-0 over that time period.

You're correct, they quit at the first sign of adversity. That's where Riley has taken us unfortunately. They just gave up. That's the soft culture he created. Sucks because they were playing hard up until that ridiculous punt penalty.

Just went back and watched. Our NG went out earlier than I thought. He had 3 TFL from the the NG position in the 1st quarter alone, and got his leg rolled up on late in the 1st and never returned. We lost probably our best LB in the 1st quarter too.

Hey, you guys beat us soundly, but our starting NG was having his way with the center of your OLine before he got injured. 3 TFL in one quarter is having a great game. Would have liked to see what would have happened with your inside run game had he stayed in.

Seriously? You are still clueless. Stop back next year. I can't wait to hear why you lost again in 2018.

We didn't lose because our NG got injured. We lost because our players checked out. They quit. They didn't have competent coaches to begin with. Mike Canvaugh has been a terrible OLine coach from the start. Just awful. Many of them were ready for the season to be over, because their coaches didn't put them in the position to compete to begin with.

Watch the video on the NG though. It's right in front of you. He was in your backfield a lot before he got injured.

Your noseguard is worth 42 points? LOL.

Your noseguard watched us go 99 yards on his ass.

Your noseguard made 2 really good plays the whole half. 2!

Your noseguard did not throw out center into the backfield on either of those plays. He beat our Center on one play and the other our RG went to cut block him and whiffed.

Maybe next year your noseguard will stay healthy and you will win a national championship. Your horseshit team wasn't dealing with an elite Iowa squad here. They were dealing with a team that struggled to run the ball all year. Well until they found the remedy which was a blackshirt defense. Thanks for sucking again.

Your offensive line and defensive lines have sucked ever since they started testing for steroids.

Please just stop. Our starting safety (who was a fill-in for 2 other safeties who were injured in previous games) went down in the first quarter too. A true freshmen stepped in and played. It's called coaching and having a program. You really want to go down the list of Iowa injuries as well this year? It's football, develop some depth.

You got steamrolled 49-0 on Senior Day by a 7-5 team. Iowa didn't offer excuses after getting whipped by Purdue 24-15 on Senior Day. Own up to defeat and move on, get better.

Oh, you got your arse kicked because you gave up? Ok, got it. I guess they quit against Minnesota, Ohio State and Penn State too.

You guys need to quit giving up. Four out of the last five years, bunch of quitters.

Great post, heater. What I think I saw halfway through the 4th quarter when Banwart came in, is I believe Welsh came out, also. Possibly a foreshadowing of next year’s line if Daniels jumps. I think it was Aleric, Reynolds, Banwart, Render and Wirfs. I suspect Spencer Williams will be pushing Banwart for the center position or Levi for the next guard in.

Even though we fell behind 14-7, I had no doubt we would win after seeing us march 99 yards on that 2nd drive.

Interestingly, We only threw 5 passes in the 2nd half. All of them were to our TEs. The very first play of the 4th quarter was an incomplete pass to Fant. We never passed the ball again and still scored 2 TDs with our 3rd and 4th string RBs and subs in at center and guard.

Reynolds and Render have playing about 40/60 at LG. In mop up duty they moved Render to RG and left Reynolds at LG. I was looking for guys that didn't play much.

HooskerDu,

Losing Stoltenberg did not help. However, Iowa radically changed the blocking scheme in the 2nd half....going gap scheme rather than the Iowa staple of a zone scheme. Why, to address guys like Storltenberg and backers from running down hill into gaps of the zone scheme. Blame the coaches for not seeing Iowa's adjustment...stoltenberg would have run himself out of plays if he stayed in.

The previous Nebraska staff was atrocious.

Went and checked out this All world NG of yours. the following plays are where he was either good or bad. He only played 10 plays. They pulled him about midway through our 99 yard drive and put him back in later on. At no point did he take our center into our own backfield. So you are full of shit like most Nebraska fans.

Posted a youtube of the game again for your convenience.

Following times are youtube counter so you can see for yourself.

8:05. Daniels blows him off the ball
8:45 Our RG whiffs on the cut blocks, your NG gets a TFL because nobody blocked him.
14:30 Daniels and our LG crush him on the QB sneak.
15:10 Render (LG) controls him for the most part, allowing Wadley to get outside for 19 yards.
17:00 He beats Render (LG) and tackles for no gain. Good play.
18:00 They pull him because he's tired
21:15 Back in
23:00 He beats Welsh (RG) and gets a TFL. Best play he made.
24:30 He gets pancaked on his ass by our Center and Wadley goes 20 yards for a TD.

The other 3 plays he played they were pass plays and he was no factor at all.

My question would be if he's so fricken awesome, why are they pulling him in the 1st quarter for other players?

Just clicked on the YouTube video and will come back and watch later but I thought it was really cute how excited and optimistic their fans were at the beginning of the game.
Many were holding red balloons!

BTW, is there a more fraudulent claim in all of college football than the so-called home sellout streak ?
How many times over the last decade has some donor or local business come in late to buy unsold tickets or the AD flooded Lincoln with free tickets just to prop up that dinosaur?

According to the B10, Iowa was 34-44, 29 TDs, 77.3% - 12th in the B10
Penn State was 1st, converting 91.1% red zone possessions into scores

That's one of those stats that makes you wonder how all these other teams are racking up more yards/scores (and if it's a wide margin or several teams bunched together in the statistical rankings).

Like last year when we had two 1,000 yard rushers for the first time in school history but were WELL entrenched in the bottom half of the rankings in total rushing yards anyway, which tells the casual fan that just looks at stats that Iowa's run game must've sucked last year.......

Yeah and the "red zone" is an arbitrary creation anyway. Someone invented it, it stuck, and stat freaks had a new stat to slice and dice. If your team scores from the 20, its a red zone score but it would not be a red zone score if the snap happened two feet further from the goal line.

Many don’t understand snap counts.

It may have been another sell-out but I bet they may have set a record for the soonest time for emptying that stadium. Fans were packing it up by late in the 3rd quarter.

Excuses are like a$$holes
