This Female's Perspective on HR

I've been on HR since Tyler Nixt moved in across the street in early 2000's. Although I'd gone to matches since 1995, I didn't like wrestling because one kid, working so hard out there, had to lose. I went to be a good sport, but was the one wanting to leave after 197. I began to care about Tyler, then the team. We've been to the NCAA's many times since then. I am ignorant about the actual act and feel of wrestling, as well as history, so started watching this forum to learn.
I don't have any uncommon wrestling experiences so most of my posts relate to the connection of wresting and politics, important to me because I am a professional social worker who cares about people. Posts you've seen from me are about what I perceive as civil right slights. I have no patient for it so am strained beyond capacity in the current political era.
I found a group called Hawkeye Wrestling Fan Club 2 on Facebook. At least one of the administrators is a woman. Perhaps because of her presence or perhaps because participants are identified by their actual name, it is a different atmosphere than here. One doesn't have to be on guard for sarcasm or disrespectful "locker room" talk.
I'm grateful to HR for distraction provided during shitty life crises over the past 17 years, as well as education and current information, but I'm putting it on hold until next season. I have been disassociating from a lot since the election.

Fortunata - Don't let the big stuff get you down. Just keep doing a good job taking care of your little corner of the world. You'll probably end up having a bigger positive impact on the world than all the big-mouths in DC combined. Don't go quitting on us.

Sorry to hear that Fortunata. Unfortunately, politics is everywhere...even here sometimes. Yup, I have participated too. As for locker room talk, I think it's kind of funny that you mention Facebook but you know where I see the most locker room talk and objectifying pictures? On Facebook...by women. Yup...lots of otherwise respectable, sometimes married women often post pics of beefcake dudes and talk smack. You know where I don't see it? From men...Probably because when a woman does it, she's being fun and her friends are cheering her on. When a guy does it, it's just tacky and weird or disrespectful of his wife or g/r.

My point? This is a place where dudes can blow off steam, talk sh*t, and get together on their favorite sport. Funny thing is, women are not objectified all that much on here. Yea, get a signature pic of a gal every once in awhile and a thread of Tognetti girls or one with actual hot women...but by and large, we keep it pretty respectful considering most of us are a bunch of former wrestlers ;)

Have fun on the fan club site...my experience on FB though is that real names don't matter and political talk is more likely on there than it is here. At least here, folks often jump in and try to call "knock it off." But maybe that's the place for you because you are right...you did patrol for perceived slights more than you actually talked about wrestling. Good luck.

Gotta love it when a woman who posts her real name on here tells the board her opinion in an honest and well though out post only to have some anonymous dolt come along and tell her why she's wrong and it's actually the women who are at fault.

Her two main points were about the political and sexist nature of HR. I disagree and related my experience with Facebook. In fact, just saw a poster wish (on the FB fan site) that Cory Clark had thrown the governor on his head when he met him. This started a bit back and forth on the FB site.

In fact, Fortunata usually only posts about political stuff or posts she deems offensive...she pointed this out and I agree. My point is this: If you are looking to be offended, you will find it everywhere...hence my posts about women pics of beefcake on FB and that yes, women do it as well.

Honest? Probably. Well though out? Not so sure. Telling us that she likes another board better because a wrestling board uses sarcasm and "locker room talk" opens herself directly up for an unfriendly response. Don't forget she only posts on here about perceived civil rights slights and then said she is disassociating due to an election.

What about the above would expect more than a very select few to agree with her?

This is the last post I'll make on this thread, because I'm sure we will devolve into a flush it down the toilet thread sooner than later.

1. I don't recall too many instances when somebody said something about women on this board and I cringed. Maybe a few when Wendy has posted in the past? Either way, it doesn't happen often

2. The thread title should probably read "This Liberal's perspective on HR". The post seems to be more about politics than sex of poster. I suppose they can be one in the same, but I don't believe that to be the case in this instance.

3. I avoid posting on or reading anything about politics on this board, because it simply doesn't belong here. This is a wrestling board and the less circle arguing we have over politics the better.

I can't believe you all aren't PC enough to eliminate the sarcasm and perceived slights. After all, wrestling and politics seem to go so well together, the whole team was in the campaign (must be true, I saw the pic).

What a silly liberal. If the OP takes this message board to heart that strongly, that's her problem. Do you know how sad that must be? People come on here to talk wrestling, goof off, and get a laugh. The OP woke up this morning with the goal of trying to be a professional victim because apparently was never told that her opinion doesn't matter. I don't usually post stuff like this but when I came to this site and saw this post, I felt it needed to be addressed.

Considering your post you may just want to use the ignore button more. You will find it eliminates most trouble here. Dont let a few bad apples ruin it for you. Most back and forth here is good natured IMO. Nowhere in life is completely safe from confrontations. Good luck whatever you do and keep cheering for the Hawks.

Stick to Facebook and politics, because that's where all the world problems are solved.

This is a wrestling site for wrestling, for "fans" of wrestling not politics. I'm sick of politics even getting this much attention on HR, but then again I don't care for people

since most of us have spent a good portion of our lives in various locker rooms, if you come here expecting anything other than locker room humor, then you have totally unreal expectations. i for one am not likely to change.

I read almost every thread on this board, and maybe I'm dense, but I hardly ever notice political/sexist/racist or other offensive comments. I wish there were examples, because this post really confuses me.

I don't read here too often (you guys produce more volume than I have ability to keep up with), but I think I can say with some confidence that there isn't enough political discourse on HR to conclude it has a political culture. And I don't recall seeing anything racist. I've seen worse wrestling boards when it comes to objectifying pics of women being posted, or old guys getting excited at their keyboards about the mere mention of college women. But all-in-all, there is much crazier stuff out there to worry about; some knuckleheads behaving badly on wrestling forums is pretty benign in comparison.

One thing I do see here often is use of the "D-word" and other female-based words to insult individual posters. I can see how that might offend some people, and it does seem fairly routine. And I'm not calling out HR specifically for that -- it happens in lots of places. Just saying that might be what the OP is getting at.

And, of course, there is the obligatory disclaimer: there are some bad apples everywhere; they do not represent the majority in most cases. When you think they do (or if the minority ruins your enjoyment), then moving on is probably the right thing to do.

That's how I see it. Sounds like Fortunate could take a lesson or two from Wendy. Btw, I couldn't care less about the gender of a moderator or the president, for that matter. Not sure why she is interested in this site unless its to educate us on our brutish ways.

I have been with my gal pal for 8 years. She hates being around other women for the most part. She says the the only time i whine like them is when im very sick, like with the flu. She is a manager of a high end restaurant so she deals with it everyday. For the record she has trouble with the men she manages aswell (mostly gay servers) so yeah pretty much girls. Sorry if thats not pc here.

The only thing I've done since the election is stop my course in Chinese as a 2nd language.
