This group has never been clutch

How many games have we lost late due to scoring droughts and missed free throws at the end of games with this group? I will miss watching these guys and appreciate their time here but man the end of games have been brutal at times over the years. They seem like great kids but needed the one with swagger who seized the moment.

I'm not so sure this group should take all the blame. Fran gets consistently out coached near the end of games. He doesn't call timeouts, doesn't setup good plays, and tries the same losing strategy over and over again. It's maddening.

That play to Clemmons was beautiful couldn't have been executed any better and he air balls it.

Other than your overused adjective of swagger, I agree with you. How about good old fashioned confidence.

Uthoff continues to avoid the ball in the clutch. Woody and Mike, bone headed plays. Clemmons missed 2 critical FT's and air-ball's a potential game tying 3? JHC.

I have said this forever. It's not coaching. You cannot coach guts. It is simply that they are not the type of players to have toughness when it counts.

I came online to find the final. I turned the game off at 20-15 Indiana. Iowa couldn't guard a thing, crowd silent. I told myself, I am not going to watch Iowa lose again in utterly agonizing fashion again with this group. Tired of having my Hawkeye basketball heart ripped out, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in bizarrely similar fashion over and over.

From the reactions...it appears that's exactly what happened. Goddammit...what the hell is it with this group?

Nerves. That's my point as frontrunners they are a very good team but when the pressure is on they know they are going to lose it seems.

Also, they were best when they weren't ranked highly and weren't talked about much. Once they got to 3rd and the spotlight started shining the wheels came off. I think they once they are overlooked again they can still win a couple games in the tourney unless it is close at the end.

This team is very similar to Iowa vs Northwestern St in 2006. They are choke artist. I mean you are a senior shooting probably your 500+ Ft in Carver and you miss not 1 but BOTH! Then you get a shot to redeem yourself and you throw up an air ball.

They got Jok a shot and it was way off too. Jok/Uthoff/Clemmons were 14 for 43...tough to overcome that. My objection with Fran was pulling a lineup that made up 14 pt deficit and playing the guys that got us the 14pt deficit with 4min left in game. We wen 1/11 or so after that.

Since we won't need to build a new trophy case in the basketball complex at CHA this year, maybe we could buy and install a dozen or more basketball goal units for the practice courts. Then the entire team could spend an hour each day of practice individually practicing free throw shooting.

The very name FREE THROW implies they are supposed to be free, but the last few years they have COST us dearly.

I've been there, most of have if we have played sports. Some call it "choking" but that's really not accurate. Sometimes, the moment is just too big and you don't execute. We all dream of hitting the game winner at the buzzer.

I myself missed a big free throw. In a big game. The biggest game I ever played in, and it cost us the game. I still can see it 30 years later. I'm sure Sapp will see his last night. The good news is, he will have the opportunity to hit more big shots here in his last few games. Let's hope he does!
