I haven't posted on here before but I have followed this board for years.

We all should see this coming, regardless of the actual way it plays out in the game, here's why:

1. Iowa prides itself on being a ball control offense, but it has never fixed it's most fatal flaws, Kirk is terrible at clock management, and our special teams consistently cost us field position.

2. Iowa's defense no matter how good gets gassed covering up for the mistakes on offense and special teams.

3. And I saved the biggest flaw for last: Iowa is a 3 quarter team, meaning they play to win for 3 quarters then even if they only have a 3 point lead, try to run the clock out. They do this because of their faith in their ball possesion, and this is what leads to many of the clock management errors we have seen decade over decade. This works better when Iowa has a 2 possesion or more lead but we all know what happens if they don't.

Until Iowa realizes you can't play the clock in the 4th quarter in a close game, it will never take the step to become anything more than a 8-4 team that occassionally overperforms when everything goes their way.

what are these clock management errors?

Having 3 timeouts at the end of the game when Wisconsin is in scoring position and sitting on them so they have less than a minute to drive the field. That's in this game, but are you seriously saying this team has been good at it in the last decade?

So was BF being conservative and trying to manage the clock on the 1st down PA crossing route from his own 15 yard line? Yes, Iowa has been guilty of going conservative when they have a lead late in the game. Last night was not an example of that. BF actually tried to finish Wisconsin off. Stanley did not execute in the fourth quarter. 2 for his last 9.

Stanley in nearly every game has long periods of sheer suckiness but KF never goes to the bullpen , never. Not that He should been pulled have last night but crips Every fan who has watched Stanley the last 1.5 years sees this and in a 60 minute game a good team cant become a great team with 15 minutes or more of terrible QB play . 2-9 down the stretch isn't going to beat Wisconsin .

Stanley had played extremely well up to that point. Were the coaches supposed to know he was going to derail on the next series? A lot of people were harping for Mansell last week after Stanley threw the pick before halftime. What did Mansell do on his first series? Yup.
Stanley missing Hockenson isnt on any of the coaches. That is a throw any HS QB could make. It is totally on Stanley. Ironically, if KF had been conservative and kicked the FG on the first series, the 4th quarter may have looked different. I agreed with going for it, BTW. If you want to make the claim that Iowa needs better players, I can agree with that. I just haven't seen evidence that Mansell or Petras (at this early stage of his career) give Iowa a better chance to win.

His biggest win at iowa was a cluster fluke of incredibly poor time mgmt

Why, oh why, did we try to run WIDE on 2nd and 2 on that next to last drive? Absolutely idiotic call. Of course we get stuffed for a loss. Either run between the tackles, or play action and roll Stanley out to either keep it or throw a short pass to a back or TE.

So you’re take is KF should have anticipated the wheels were falling off and benched Stanley? Who had played well up to that point?

That is a scalding hot take. Wow man. Lots of things to be frustrated about but that is digging deep.

Did You read the sentence where I said not saying they should have yanked Him last night ? Its hard when Your crap streak QB decides to go on one in the 4th Qt to yank Him.

You don't read well like others I see.

Team just doesn't have that 4th quarter killer instinct anymore. Team falters down the stretch in the big ones. The team functions as a sum of its performance thus far in the 4th quarter. The shortcomings of the team thru 3 quarters come back to haunt us in the 4th in these big games. Both sides of the ball need to lock the game down late but don't. Leadership from the top down do not have finishing mindset. Playing timid and scared late.

What are some other notable games in which Iowa collapsed late in the 4th qtr under KF? I'm asking out of historical curiosity.

I don't remember turns of momentum as much as I do memorable plays such as Wegher breaking a 90 yard td run against NW in 2009 only to be called back for holding and then Stanzi going down in their endzone next play with a broken leg in what turned out to be their first loss that season after a 9-0 start (worst Iowa memory ever. I was in the near corner of the endzone bleachers and had a perfect view of it). Or the Solomon td catch against LSU, the McNutt td against MSU, etc.

A reflection of KF and staff. We are what we are, at this point.
