This is the biggest game in Iowa sports history

I say no.1985 #1 vs. #2 was kind of a big deal. 2009 against Ohio State. The game next week could still get Iowa into the playoff even if they lose to Nebraska. So again... no. Seems like it's an emotional game for many fans, especially those in Western Iowa, but objectively I don't see that argument.

No. Next week is bigger regardless of how tomorrow goes. '09 at OSU was bigger. You could argue last Saturday was bigger. We've been to Final Fours and Rose Bowls. We've been to two BCS games since our upcoming opponent last won their conference. Tomorrow is big and I want it bad, but it's not the biggest ever.
If we lose today and win next Saturday which game was bigger? This game is the biggest game in iowa history because we much win to keep our national hopes alive. If we win today, next Saturday will be the biggest game but for now, this game is the biggest.

This is nowhere near the biggest game in Hawkeye history. But I sure want to win this one.

Seriously? You do realize that if we lose this our playoff hopes are dead but if we win we can still make the playoffs and perhaps the national championship? Also I know 85 was a big deal but college football is 100000 times a bigger deal now than it was back in 85 so I have to beg to differ in that this has to be one of the biggest games of our programs history due to so much hinging on a victory.

I guess those Nebraska championships from 30 years ago aren't worth as much either.

Cool - playing the worst Husker team in over 40 years is the highlight of the Hawkeyes historical existence.
You realize this isn't about Nebraska, right?

No, of course you dont. Why else would you be on this board at 6am. Nebraska is irrelevant in nearly every way. You are just another opponent today. The game is big. The opponent is not.

Now get over yourself

Biggest regular season game of the Ferentz era? Sure, that I can see.

But there's a bunch of games in the late 50's just as big if not bigger than this one because they were late season games against top competition with the Rose Bowl on the line that top today.

The conference championship isn't even on the line today...

Best Iowa team in at least 20 years is -1, or even pick em, against our worst team, at least by record,in 40 years.

Go back to your own board where we're not allowed to talk to you. This kind of flaming wouldn't be tolerated there. Also, please get rectal cancer from that douche mod's hot sauce.

Were you around in 1985? College football is not 100,000 times bigger now than it was then. It was plenty big. That game was #1 vs. #2. This one is big, but not on a national scale like that one.

My vote at least in my lifetime?? Iowa vs. Louisville in the opening round of the Final Four in 1980. If we reach that level in the football playoffs, it will be bigger.

My god no one has ever stated this is our best team!!!!! Seriously you had some BAD teams when Callaghan was there (the only reason you won is because of the Big 12 North). If those teams were in the Big Ten, they would of been 3-8 or 2-9 every year. This team is not that bad, they just had some collapses early in the year. This is not NEbbie's worst team, sorry.

This is a good Iowa team, but not our best. This is probably KF's 4th-5th best team in his tenure. The reason they are winning is because they are playing together and playing as a team. No one on our team is bona fide NFL player. They can be, but not yet.

This is nowhere near the biggest. UNL is 5-6. It will be tough challenge to go12-00. Nothing more.
Many on this board disagree with you. This is big for you. Think you can get yourselves up to a 35% winning percentage today with one of the best teams your university has ever fielded?

This is a huge game but not the biggest. Again, this game could be against Minnesota, Purdue, whoever... doesn't matter. It is all about the right to be 12-0.

My god its like talking to a complete idiot. This is not our best team, our teams in 2002, 2008, 2009, 2010 were a lot better than this team. Hell our 2005 team was pretty good despite not having a running game.

I used to like Nebbie fans, but damn some of the crap they are spewing out this week really makes me wonder what they drink over in Nebbie??

This.

This game isn't even close. And college football is not a bigger deal than it was in the 80's. That's a weird comment.

Sorry - I live in Iowa and I hear it all the time from fans how this is the best.

Question - if you are saying this team is not amongst even the the best that Kirk has produced in his tenure, and Kirk has never finished a football season with less than 2 losses, why is everyone up in arms that the national media is not giving this team any respect?

I think we're more annoyed by the collective paper-thin skin of Nebraskaland. Go back to your board where we're not allowed to point out the reality of the season you're having.

Jon Miller said it best in his podcast when he likened this to a bar closing late at night, and Nebraska being the only girl left.

Its 2 AM, the bar is about to close. The music is slowing down and "Fat Debbie"' is the only girl left. Debbie is overweight, ugly and kinda sloppy, but even she deserves a good Thanksgiving pounding

If Iowa loses playoff hopes are NOT dead. Both ESPN and BTN said earlier this week a 12-1 Iowa can still get in if Notre Dame falls at Stanford. Remember the committee emphasizes conference champions.

1. 1956: Iowa vs San Francisco for National Championship of college basketball
2. 1970: Iowa vs Jacksonville University
3. 1985; Iowa vs Michigan

I think the national media is giving them enough credit. I could care less if they talk about Iowa or not. Most of the "national" media don't even do their homework. They look at the box scores and then make their own assumptions. The only station that does any work is Big Ten Network. The people spewing their crap about how Iowa hasn't played anyone and how the Big Ten is weak. Its more of a blast against the big ten than it is Iowa. So I think everyone in the Big Ten should feel disrespected.

KF has had better teams but also the conference was a lot tougher those years and more challenging. This year the Big Ten is level and there is not one dominate team. Iowa is winning because they are balanced and their defense has played good. Lately they have been getting everyone's best shot (as they should be) and some of the teams are pulling out tricks and all the stops to beat them. That's why you are seeing games that closer than expected. Iowa is not flashy and that's why no one is giving them credit. These people look at the 8pt, 5pt, and 20pt wins as not flashy. A win is a win weather its by 1pt or 30pts.

Strongly disagree

There are scenarios in which Iowa loses this game and still gets in the playoff

Playing a 5-6 Nebraska team is a lose-lose for Iowa
