From 2010 to 2016, NIH research contributed to EVERY drug approved by the FDA
$62 billion in fines over a thirty year period. Disband the NIH and throw Fauci in jail for being complicit.Yay the NIH fuels the poisons we put into our bodies rather than promote healthy living, healthy foods, vitamins, exercise, etc.
The problem with “the science” is the only answers they have are take this pill or take this shot.
We would have to take a lot fewer drugs if we lived healthier lives but then how would Pfizer keep making record profits while having complete immunity when they damage or kill someone?
In your opinion, how do we get more people to live healthier lives?Yay the NIH fuels the poisons we put into our bodies rather than promote healthy living, healthy foods, vitamins, exercise, etc.

Which has nothing to do with NIH and drug discovery.$62 billion in fines over a thirty year period.
You’ve benefited from this research.$62 billion in fines over a thirty year period. Disband the NIH and throw Fauci in jail for being complicit.
Might want to address your rhetorical to @SCOTUSWe would have to take a lot fewer drugs if we lived healthier lives but then how would Pfizer keep making record profits while having complete immunity when they damage or kill someone?
You’ve been off your game lately. It’s tough defending the shit show on a daily basis. You’re floundering trying to establish narratives.Yay the NIH fuels the poisons we put into our bodies rather than promote healthy living, healthy foods, vitamins, exercise, etc.

Please put more money into the butthole of C. Elegans. Not to worry. @GOHOX69 assures us that basic research is useless.
C. elegansPlease put more money into the butthole of C. Elegans.
If that makes your dick hard, go for it. I don't correct grammar or genus/species capitalization. Thanks, teach!C. elegans
Educate kids at younger ages in school about the benefits of a good diet, regular exercise, and plenty of sleep. 🤔In your opinion, how do we get more people to live healthier lives?
Not the only thing you were wrong about. And despite evidence to the contrary...a mountain of evidence...you double down.If that makes your dick hard, go for it. I don't correct grammar or genus/species capitalization. Thanks, teach!
Calm down, teach. Things will reach appropriate equilibrium. No one needs 65 percent indirect cost. It's taxpayer money. Not the only thing you were wrong about. And despite evidence to the contrary...a mountain of evidence...you double down.
So this falls on teachers and educators. Good to know.Educate kids at younger ages in school about the benefits of a good diet, regular exercise, and plenty of sleep. 🤔

Give them a sense of purpose and perspective. In your opinion, how do we get more people to live healthier lives?
hahaha, what a stupid position. All the people in this country that still smoke and vape and you are thinking people will lead healthy lives!!!!!Yay the NIH fuels the poisons we put into our bodies rather than promote healthy living, healthy foods, vitamins, exercise, etc.

Sure they will. Big Pharma will just pick up the cost of that basic research. Sure they will. You know, that research you claim is nothing but a money pit that produces nothing of importance.Calm down, teach. Things will reach appropriate equilibrium. No one needs 65 percent indirect cost. It's taxpayer money.
You could always set up a institute of basic research. In this austere economic environment, I'm sure people will be running to fund basic research. I'll continue to work for Darth Vader. People want cures and treatments for limited, valid, funding levels.Sure they will. Big Pharma will just pick up the cost of that basic research. Sure they will. You know, that research you claim is nothing but a money pit that produces nothing of importance.
Let’s start by re-routing the money going to big pharma to grocery stores..let’s make the healthy foods more affordable than the bad foods. In your opinion, how do we get more people to live healthier lives?
About a month ago we discovered my 8 year old has epilepsy. When your child is on the ground convulsing and it can be solved by a simple drug, pharma starts sounding pretty dang good.
ithink this is a great idea - federal funds for grocery stores, food access, combatting food deserts...Let’s start by re-routing the money going to big pharma to grocery stores..let’s make the healthy foods more affordable than the bad foods.
I think a major reason people eat bad food is because it’s cheaper than healthier choices.
Yay the NIH fuels the poisons we put into our bodies rather than promote healthy living, healthy foods, vitamins, exercise, etc.

I remember taking “Health” class in high school with that very curriculum. My generation is still a bunch of fatties…Educate kids at younger ages in school about the benefits of a good diet, regular exercise, and plenty of sleep. 🤔
That means use a belt if they act up, eh Hitman?Give them a sense of purpose and perspective.
And let us know when an apple a day keeps the cancer away in I-O-Way…Some people must have very different doctors than i have...
because mine always talk to me about improving my diet, losing weight, getting more exercise, etc...and i know the same is true of my parents (who are in their 70s)
but healthy diets and more exercise aren't going to fix everything...pharmaceuticals, while not a great answer for EVERY instance, have been inarguably a huge net positive for humanity
and let me know when this trump admin does a single f-ing thing to "make America healthy again"...other than just defunding research. Let me know when the stand up to ANY corporate interest or increase some environmental regulation
Awesome idea. An institute dedicated to basic research regarding health. They could take submissions for research from the best and brightest and award grants. The research could be openly available to anyone who wished to build on it…including Darth Vader. We could call it…hmmm …the National Institutes of Health. Kinda catchy. I'm loving this idea. You could always set up an institute of basic research. In this austere economic environment, I'm sure people will be running to fund basic research. I'm not suggesting we go crazy and fully fund free food everywhere. But I am suggesting we use federal funds to pay for maybe half of the cost of healthy foods. Meats, fruits, vegetables, milk, and vitamins and gym memberships, and mental health care. Make it to where eating in and healthy is at least on par price wise with eating the bad stuff and could even be less.ithink this is a great idea - federal funds for grocery stores, food access, combatting food deserts...
and I think the modern conservative trump party would laugh someone out of the room for suggesting it
What caused your condition; could it possibly have been a Big Pharma drug or injection? And there are certain foods and OTC meds that can trigger seizures.I have 2 conditions I take pills for. Epilepsy and essential tremors. Neither of which could be treated or have been prevented with a healthier lifestyle.
Or a large waste of cash.Awesome idea. An institute dedicated to basic research regarding health. They could take submissions for research from the best and brightest and award grants. All evidence to the contrary.Or a large waste of cash.
This will be my last post on this topic. Government institutions have issues of efficiency. They might do good work and in that sense that is credible. I don't know about you but I have been to the NIH dozens of times. I have collaborated with people there for more than 30+ years. There are things they do well and there are things they do very poorly. In such a tight economic climate, cuts have to be made. Even people who work there will tell you that. All of them are painful. When we run into trouble, things are far more ruthless. We have to fire people en mass. I don't think anyone likes that. So my point remains, cuts have to be made. I don't know if you participate in the Biotech group on reddit but it isn't exactly milk and honey in Biopharma. My linkedin account is replete with friends of mine looking for jobs in their late 50's. C-suite people with decades of experience and accomplishment. It is just the way things are and chances are it will get worse. All evidence to the contrary.
Contribution of NIH funding to new drug approvals 2010–2016
Significance
This report shows that NIH funding contributed to published research associated with every one of the 210 new drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration from 2010–2016. Collectively, this research involved >200,000 years of grant funding totaling more than $100 billion. The analysis shows that >90% of this funding represents basic research related to the biological targets for drug action rather than the drugs themselves. The role of NIH funding thus complements industry research and development, which focuses predominantly on applied research. This work underscores the breath and significance of public investment in the development of new therapeutics and the risk that reduced research funding would slow the pipeline for treating morbid disease.
Again, I understand your need to defend your field. It's much like Brian defending the Catholic Church. Both benefit from federal dollars. Both do good and necessary work. Both are also capable of egregious misdeeds. No further response is necessary.
LOL...they MIGHT do good work? Holy hell. You MIGHT do good work, as well. This will be my last post on this topic. Government institutions have issues of efficiency. Like I said, you can fund your own institute. Unlike your forum bleating, someone finally decided to hack the detritus. Good for them.LOL...they MIGHT do good work? Holy hell. You MIGHT do good work, as well.
No one is arguing against smart, targeted, necessary cuts. Literally NO ONE. That is not what's happening and if you don't understand that, you need to get out more. They're slashing and burning everything. And YOUR argument has been that it's ok because the NIH doesn't do anything worth doing and somebody else - I have no idea who and neither do you - will pick up the slack of basic research. And don't dispute it because there are receipts. It was a stupid stance from the jump so it's best if this is your last post.
