This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

I heard an interesting piece on the radio a few days ago. I think it was the BBC. The guest was en ex intelligence officer who was talking about how isolated Putin is. He lives in a compound surrounded by security, and has very few visitors. He rarely goes out in public or meets with anyone. He gets nothing but positive reinforcement. He pays his bodyguards a large amount of money to keep them loyal. Like millions per guard. But, he also controls them by having the leverage to wipeout their fortunes.
He’s basically Howard Hughes, but with nukes.
He’s become Hitler.

This is pretty important. The longer it takes the Russians to move forward the more time the Ukrainians have to position weapons and forces. They are building a resistance movement that will make Ukraine ungovernable for whatever puppet state Putin installs.
I'm not sure Putin will ever get to install his puppet state. One year conscripts aren't going to be able to take anything. Each day, Ukraine gets stronger and Putin gets weaker.

They apparently have over half their combat forces committed currently.

When we surged in Iraq we had about 1/4 of our active forces committed.
You have to do that so you can rotate and refit.

They can wreck Ukraine.
I don't see how they can take Ukraine.

You mean half of their entire combat forces. I read today the US believes they've committed nearly 100% of the forces arrayed on Ukraine's borders prior to 24 February.

I'm curious to see how or if Ukraine's air defenses can improve in the next week or so. I also read they intercepted a couple of cruise missiles over night last night. Hopefully they get more SAM-like weapons to go after the Russian aircraft dropping dumb bombs.

It's going to be a lot of death and destruction coming up here. I'm with you though. I don't think Russia can "take" Ukraine.

The only thing that can beat Ukraine and save Putin' ass, is Biden and NATO forcing Ukraine to give in to Russia's demands.

Maybe some of his guards will turn on him and stab him a few dozen times like Caligula?

Blitzed, by Norman Ohler is the book about Hitler I was referencing. It’s a solid read.
If it came out that Putin was on coke or heroin I would not be surprised. He’s erratic, paranoid, prone to delusions of grandeur…

Sounds like he may be on shrooms from your description
