This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

"Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu held a phone call with US counterpart Lloyd Austin, the defence ministry said Friday, Oct.21, in rare talks between Moscow and Washington since the start of the Ukraine conflict.

“Topical issues of international security, including the situation in Ukraine, were discussed,” Russia’s defence ministry said in a statement on social media without providing further details.

This was the second phone call between Shoigu and Austin since Russia sent troops into Ukraine on February 24.

Their last call was on May 13, a few days before phone talks between the chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov, and his US counterpart Mark Milley on May 19.

Relations between Moscow and Washington have sunk to new lows since the start of Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine."

Hope he told him to declare victory and pull out of 🇺🇦. "The nazis have been eradicated."

I mean after WWII the Germans were conditioned to not want a military and to have to rely on diplomacy and relationships. I think we're certainly far enough removed that we can re-arm Germany and not expect them to take off across Europe in a brutal war. But you're asking an entire country to reconsider it's view of how it see's it's identity. Of course Russia has certainly given a large amount of impetus towards that.
Mentioned by more than one German member of the main forum I follow this war on, careers in the military are basically frowned/looked down upon in present day German society.

The only way I see Ukraine giving up Crimea is if NATO or some other group guarantees control of the straits, otherwise Russia just strangles many of Ukraine's more important ports. They really need Crimea so they can have access to shipping lanes.
Commercial vessels transited previously.

At this point in the war Ukraine doesn’t have any ports on the Azov Sea, so it’s kind of moot until that changes.

Also, a shoutout to the WSJ photographers, who have been kicking ass as well.

I LOVE this pic. Look at these Ukrainian soldiers' faces -- they are not effing around. They are going to win.

A little different than the Belarussian trainees jazzercizing and prancing about colored smoke like Jean Claude Van Damme.

Russian propaganda taken from the early days of the attack. Some great footage and to be fair this guy apparently is fearless though we can see one reason why their officers get killed so often leading their troops.

Early footage from the war, and from Mariupol. It's easy to be fearless when you are rolling over blocks of apartments filled with women and children. Hopefully he's dead soon.

Hey, we all say things a little over the top that we don't mean from time to time, but, come on, Bro. What you call prancing others would call a rare combination of strength, stamina, and flexibility carried out in baggy pants flair.

Don't fool yourself.

He's probably opting to inherit a free Rusal plant when all Russian assets get seized.
In it for Mitch, not for Ukraine.
You say that like any national pol isn't putting their self interests first. Take the win (or L in your case since you've been no stranger in reminding everyone you "called" a drop in support - despite no actions signifying that.)

"The Hensoldt company, which is a supplier of radars, plans to deliver all four systems to Ukraine in record time.

The TRML-4D is capable of detecting, tracking and classifying various types of aerial targets, with a focus on small, fast and low-flying and/or manoeuvring cruise missiles and aircraft, as well as hovering helicopters. It can carry out the rapid detection and tracking of some 1,500 targets in a radius of up to 250 km. At the same time, the maximum height of detection is 30 km.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced on Oct. 20 that Germany plans to train a brigade of 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers as part of the European Union’s EUMAM Ukraine training mission."

German sensor solutions specialist Hensoldt has delivered the first TRML-4D multifunctional radar system to equip Diehl Defence’s IRIS-T surface-launched medium-range (SLM) air defence system.

This is the first of four radar systems to be delivered by Hensoldt. Delivery of the other three radar systems is expected to complete in the coming few months.

The company, together with general contractor Diehl Defence and Airbus, signed a two-digit-million-euro contract in June to deliver the IRIS-T SLM system to Ukraine.

According to the contract, Diehl Defence is responsible for IRIS-T SLM system integration and for the delivery of missiles and its launcher system while Airbus provided integrated battle management software fire control for the tactical operation centre.

With the delivery of Hensoldt’s TRML-4D radar, the three companies have also completed the final delivery of the first ground-based air defence system IRIS-T SLM.

Hensoldt CEO Thomas Müller said: “The situation in Ukraine requires quick and decisive action.

“Due to a serial production line and the commitment of our employees, we are able to deliver such systems to protect the population in the shortest possible time.”

The newly delivered IRIS-T SLM air defence system is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities against Russia’s military attacks.

Compatible with Nato’s integrated air defence architecture, the TRML-4D features active electronically scanned array radar technology. The system provides rapid detection of nearly 1,500 targets in around a 250km radius."
