I would point to lack of production from the new guys. Fran's love of project players is going to cost us any shot at a good season. Redshirt two guys, but don't get a juco with springs to rebound and defend. Fran is asking Woodbury to do too much on both ends and Gesell simply isn't a finisher late in games.

There was no execution offensively, and we played ole defense for the majority of ISU's run.

While it's easy to pin the last minute and a half on Fran, in reality, we never should have been in that position.

Not sure why Fran decided to take the air out of the ball the last few possessions. Why not run some offense and then if you don't get anything you can get it out front with 10 seconds left on the shot clock. His confidence in Gessel reminds of all of the times Marble tried to create late in the game and came up empty. And if nothing else use the last timeout to give the team a breather. If you are going to shorten your bench (no Wagner?) why not use the timeout.

Iowa State can be a scary good team team when they play with a little urgency.

Agree entirely. We all know MG is not great in those situations. In the NBA you get the ball to you BEST offensive player in those situations. Why don't we?

Iowa doesn't have the players to take the air out of the ball then go one on one at the end of the shot clock. This team needs to run the offense regardless how much time is left on the clock and get the best shot possible. Plus, you call that last timeout either 1) before the 5 second count 2) to setup a play and get up a solid shot when we're only up one.

Fran's refusal to use timeouts at the end of half, end of games and at critical moments with the shot clock getting below 10 to draw up a good look burns us time and time again. Of all the great things Fran has done, he isn't perfect and his refusal to use timeouts to get a good look is infuriating. What a wasted opportunity tonight.

4 turnovers in the last few minutes of each half. They choked. Jok said in the post game they went "stiff".

Sounds like what at least one, if not a few players, said a few years ago regarding the game at ISU.
