There was a lot to see inside CHA that maybe didn't show up in the PBP.

Manning's a real treat to watch.
During Gilman's match, apparently some Hawkeye Fans were chirping behind him, and Manning, w/o looking back, held up his hands in their direction and did the sock puppet "talking" motion. Pretty good stuff and I made a mental note to watch him.

After the Clark match, I missed Montoya's actions (someone said he did the cut throat motion) and when I turned my gaze to the Nebby bench. I was able to catch Manning jawing with an college-aged, Iowa fan who was sitting in the folding char, the kid looked like he could fill in 285 for Iowa next year, if needed. I honestly thought the two were going to throw down. And I didn't have a lot of confidence that the "rent-a-cop" had the ability or desire to drag them apart.

Cooler heads prevailed and they calmed down. The security officer then led the young fan out of the arena. This interaction made me appreciate Iowa Fans and Manning a little more than I did before.

Quotes from Vall Jr. after Clark's match.
"Boy, I hate Nebraska a lot more than I did 30 minutes ago"
"(after the Iowa fan was escorted out, the real cops showed up) "We didn't even need the real cops for the Penn State dual"

In the Carton (sounds like the Sorensen) Match, Terry put his head down on the mat and did a head stand. A real one. Not sure but I think he wanted TC to keep his guy's head on the mat.

Lastly, my son, aka Vall Jr., had to leave at 3:15, after Meyers' match. Here's our text exchange.

Vall Jr.: "If brooks is gonna pin the guy I coulda stayed"

Me: "After the first. Books threw everything he had had the guy. He was clearly looking for feed2back situation. Brooks worked the power half and couldn't get it but the guy wearing out and when Brooks got him again, he did the 2/1 and went to have a suicide roll. On the second suicide roll the guy* behind me started yelling that he was bent** and within a half a second ref agreed

Vall Jr.: "As violent as he is, he does know a lot about wrestling"

Me: "terms are not mutually exclusive"

*Hawkcrazy/HawkeyeCrazy/some Hawkeye-guy from HR sits behind us. Always intense with his comments.

** "bent" is autocorrect from "pinned"

My wife has video of Terry doing the headstand... He wanted the bottom man called for stalling at the end of the Sorensen match and was displaying to ref what the bottom man was doing. Priceless stuff from Terry again.

How was your 15 minute walk to and from CHA?

Plenty of real entertaining matches today from our seniors, and some fireworks courtesy of Montoya. Not only did he do the throat slash gesture repeatedly to the crowd, before that he was blowing kisses to the entire arena with broad, sweeping hand gestures. He really riled up the student section that sits on the floor directly beside the Nebraska bench.
The pep band was also in attendance today, for the first time all year. They were giving Montoya and Manning an earful, which was richly deserved.
Thought Berger handled himself well, in spite of his stupid twitter war. After shaking hand with Kemmerer, he went directly to the Hawkeye bench and shook each coach's hand. No monkey business from him.
Our HWT gave a decent showing against an opponent who had at least 30 lbs. advantage. The crowd showed their appreciation too. Nice way to end the home season, but they could put some more effort into the post-meet Senior send off. Not too much fanfare.

Not me Vollholl, I couldn't make the trip today. I don't think I sit by you.
No, I don't think it's you. There's another poster with a similar name. He's only on here a bit but he's great to sit by at wrestling meets.

He does occasionally say things like "rip his arm off !" or "roll this butterball over and stick him !" which my son and I find amusing and awesome.

disappointed in the crowd. Maybe 25% (that might be generous) stayed around to acknowledge the seniors after the dual. They need to do something different to give our seniors a better ceremony. Waiting until after the dual doesn't do it justice in IMO.

This... And shame on those that get up to leave. I always let everyone know who I see walking up the stairs how I feel. I've shamed quite a few folks to have some respect and sit back down over the years... The same for leaving before HWT as well.

I was shocked so many people could not stay an extra 10 minutes to send our seniors off

That makes me sad to hear. I love this SR class and they deserve 100% of the Iowa fans to stay and send them off. In interviews they are the first ones to say "Iowa fans are the best in the world"..

Rutgers honored their Seniors and their parents 20 minutes before first match. Seemed to work out well. A lot of publicity to get the crowd in early with first 500 getting black RU Wrestling T shirts. Had an Ice Storm in NJ this morning but still a pretty good crowd, probably around 2,000. Finished the Big 10 Dual season at 6-3 w a win over NW. RU's best Big 10 record in it's short history in the Big 10. Waiting to hear on it's NWCA dual opponent..probably at Lehigh.

Indiana did the same Friday before the Iowa match

Manning is a piece of work. Tom Ryan and Barry Davis have had their moments in CHA as being an ass, but Manning is the clear #1. Immature as much as he is anything and a constant whiner.
Come on dude. Manning is animated, but doesn't compare remotely with Terry when it comes to looking and acting ridiculous, or whining. Tom used to be that way as well, but has grown up a lot. If you loved and followed any other team besides the Hawks, you would feel like the rest of us do about that. I knew Terry when he was in Lincoln, and often wondered just where some of that came from. He's a tough sob on the mat, but his antics are interesting to say the least.

I wont make excuses for MM, but when you have to come to CHA, and get the treatment teams do, and have to live with the calls, it would be hard to keep your cool.

You're right...he doesn't remotely compare to Terry. Terry does headstands.

Good idea but a couple of those seniors had to get ready to wr

said i would never tell this in public but I might reconsider.....bottom line is terry's actions on the sidelines are nothing compared to manning's less than ethical actions behind the scenes. Plus, coming from Lincoln, how can you be critical based on what went on there during the Osborne era?

Terry is a man of the people. He is one of us screaming at the TV or the refs not caring what the neighbors think except he has a front row seat to best sport in the world. His passion drives him...bet he sleeps like a baby at night. A shit load of high quality wrestlers have mucho respect for him and his character. BTW, none of Terry's wrestlers did the cutting motion across the neck after finally beating Clark who is at 50% (and still almost lost to him). But yea...Gilman and huddles.

Oh man that's classic. I've never seen the like At any level of wrestling. Can't wait for memes

What a sob story by a Husker fan dude. SO all the calls yesterday went the Hawks favor? What sort of treatment was so bad you're talking about also? Be proud that for one time this year the Huskers got to wrestle in front of a crowd bigger than a few thousand that is actually very knowledgeable and passionate and cares about the sport and roots for their home team.

Sounds like you're cut from a page of the Manning "cry baby" tactics. Now I see why you justify his immature behavior. Yes, Brands used to be animated, and now is very much the opposite on the bench. When is Manning's day coming? The dude has been around long enough and is old enough.

Here's what is most laughable about Manning's antics: He has won squat as a coach. No league titles in the B1G, no national titles, doubt there's even been many Top 10 finishes at Nationals. His top claim to fame as a coach was coaching one great Olympian wrestler.

Seems as if there's a ton of Hawkeye envy in your post here which is causing the sour taste by you.

Bottom line, everything I and others have said here about Manning is spot on. You can continue to wallow in your "everybody is against us" mentality and try justifying all the crying of Manning that he does, but it is what it is.

I think Montoya ended it.

Damn man, you live in a total fantasy world don't you. 7 of 10 matches won by the Hawks--that's the ending statement. I get that when you are outclassed at most weights you want to so desperately hang your hat on one weight, but we tend to look at the bigger picture at Iowa--all 10 weights overall.

Even though still hurt, I would guess Clark will finish higher at the Nationals than will Montoya.

Without Montoyas actions the Huskers break double digits. Something to shoot for next time. 27-9 seems a little lopsided.

Quit your whining, Hank. You're on the wrong board for that crap. Your team got pi$$ pounded and lost a point for bad sportsmanship to boot.
