Thoughts on King playing FS in 2016 if he comes back. Just hear me out. Honestly if King declares for NFL. I project him as a FS imo. So what do you think if we played King as a free roaming ball hawking safety with elite cover skills and solid tackling. Miles Taylor as the hammer at SS. Jackson and Mabin round it out as solid cover corners. All assuming King returns and Mabin covers like he did against MSU.

Remember when we tried moving Hyde to safety. I just don't agree moving your best players position his senior year. He's a very good corner, and I prefer him there.

Why?

Seems to me the risk (i.e he's not a good free safety, a potential loss season of development, weakening the CB position) isn't worth it. Is a secondary of Jackson/Maybin/King/Taylor with King learning a new position and Jackson making his first starts better than King locking down the left side and Maybin/Taylor and Snyder/Gair et all figuring out FS?

I get he is going to be a safety at the next level, but let him learn that on their dime.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I agree that he could be a good S at the next level but right now he's a shut down corner. I'd rather keep the shut down corner than experiment and risk it not working out.

If he stays, leave him at the corner spot but maybe you can play a little more press coverage and take some more chances on defense and get more blitzes dialed up.

If it ain't broke don't fix it was the mantra of the Detroit automakers in the 70s and 80s when the US auto industry was on the verge of collapse. It's a KF type of ultraconservative philosophy that guarantees eventual failure.

OP, you are correct. In fact, it would be a compelling argument for King to return. Come back, we'll move you to FS where you will play in the NFL, and your draft stock will rise.

So yah. Come back. Play safety, and get that degree your mom wants you to have. If it can get better, improve it.

I like Jackson, I think he's the next outstanding corner at Iowa. Snyder looks like a future playmaker at safety as well. I think King still has work to do but we're going to be ok if he doesn't stick around.

Yeah....got the point of leaving him on an island etc. How many interceptions or turnovers did our safeties produce this season??? Hardly any I believe. When Iowa did get burned deep. It was due to poor safety play over the top from what I could tell. I feel like King could hit 10 or more ints even at FS.

No, but I could see Mo Fleming making the move and competing for the spot with Gair and Snyder.

Great two more picks for severely weaken cornerback play.

We already did this once with Micah Hyde, and it was TERRIBLE.

Go back and re-watch the 3 OT "classic" against Clown U and then come back here and tell me again how this is such a great idea.

Let's also not forget that Brandon Snyder might end up being a very good FS.
