We have a shot, if the call ups line up correctly for Joe and Tyler, to have three active NBA players on the same day.

It has been a long time since that happened. It looks like Ricky Davis, Ryan Bowen, Reggie Evans, and Jared Reiner would all have been on NBA rosters for a little time. Then after Jared was cut the other three still had several seasons left. Sometime around 2008 or 2009 would have been the last time that we had three active players.

It has been a long road but we’re slowly making strides in getting players to the next level.

Agreed. It’s a significant recruiting tool for Fran to point to guys he has put in the NBA. that’s something that has been used against Fran that he can now flip. It’s been a long uneven process, but I think things are coming together for him as a recruiter.

Continue getting the best local players. Weiskamp fell in our laps. The Murray’s ,too. Need all worthy in-staterms to come to Iowa.

It does show that stars matter in recruiting in basketball. All three of these guys were 4 star players.

His previous NBA players were Uthoff and Marble who were both 3 stars, but didn't hang around very long and played a combined 60 games. That's why I think people need to hold their horses on the Keegan to the NBA train. He looks to be very good and has a natural athleticism that can't be coached. But for an effectively unrecruited kid out of high school he still has a lot to prove of his abilities in college. Hopefully he does that this year.

This streak does show how bad of a job Alford did of getting NBA caliber players in his 8 years, he only recruited 2 players that made active rosters in Reiner and Reggie, plus coached Deano for 2 years before he made a roster. His only draft pick, Haluska, never made it past the NBA preseason. And much of his career was back at the beginning of the Euro-infusion of players so it was easier for domestic players to get drafted.

NBA level players are hard to get at Iowa. Players that are All B1G level is more easily attained.

Fran has had his share of All B1G caliber players. He inherited Gatens, Marble was alread signed and Fran did retain him. Cook, Whitey and Garza were Fran's. Jok, Uthoff, Weiskamp were all Iowa kids so Fran did have some homecourt advantage in recruiting them.

Fran has had dynamic duos in Jok/Uthoff and Weezy/Garza and those have been 3rd in B1G type teams. Fran has not been able to come up with a true 3rd wheel scorer to get over the top. Also he has consistently had poor defenses most years.

K. Murray may or may not make it to NBA. He at least has the physical atleticism to make it. I think to get the program to a level where it can make it to Sweet 16 or a change or get to a Sunday game in BTT, Fran needs to embrace defense (not just zone) and get better point guard play. This year's team looks to be middle of the pack if I had to predict.

I hate to be put in the position of defending Alford, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility that Tyler Smith might have made the NBA if he hadn't fallen to his baser urges at Tennessee. In fact, I believe he is still playing in Europe.

Pierce would have made the league as well.

But, they decided to be shitstains instead.

Coach FRAN has consistently been upgrading our talent while naysayers keep saying he can’t close. It really baffles me.

The "experts" are those who are pegging Keagan as a 1st round draft pick after this year, not anyone on this board. What you read here is just those experts' opinions repeated.

I’m just surprised that college has become so bereft of NBA-caliber talent that a player with one year as a backup is being pegged that high. As I said, he can do things that can’t be coached. But he hasn‘t proven that he is a great scorer, hasn’t proven that he can take over games regularly, and hasn’t proven to have that lead dog persona. Hopefully he does all of those things this year and we’re preparing to watch him on an NBA roster in 12 months. I’m just saying I need to see more before I‘d put money down on that happening. But the good news is that he has several more seasons of opportunity to improve and make that jump if it doesn’t happen this year. Because of the COVID year he technically has 4 seasons of eligibility left, plus an available redshirt that he likely won’t take.

Joe W got drafted and will spend the year in the G league, which shows he should have come back and maybe improved his stock a bit idk though.

I would guess that it is based on his physical ability and defense, and expected offensive improvement this year. That's what I have read, at least. 😉

Disagree. He's getting a lot of money to train and play basketball. Not write essays.
Yep, it took me almost an entire decade after graduating to earn as much cumulative salary as he is going to make in 1 year playing basketball.

Plus, didn't he already graduate with his bachelor's degree? I guess he could have spent time on a master's, but he can always go back.

Yup, I'm sure Wiesy ain't regretting his decision.
