Tom Chambers?! He sticks out like a sore thumb - and no, not because he's white. That's just not the guy I would have guessed if you said name the 60+ point club in the 80's and 90's.
 
I blame the near complete lack of enforcement of ball handling violations more than the defense. If I can ignore that most of the time the game is very enjoyable to watch. Shooting skills today are on an entirely different level. Many said during the 90's that dunking was going to ruin the game, but have not heard any talks of raising the rim in quite awhile.

This. It was much easier to play defense 30 plus years ago. Today, almost every player on the floor is capable of extending the floor to hit 3s. Back then, several big men couldn't even hit 10 footers. Most of the game was played 10 feet and in so it was much less court to defend. Could you imagine Shaq having to defend some of the big men out there today?
