Thursday Practice Photos

Used for working on cut block technique on offense as well as how to defend against them on defense.
Does that correlate with goal line blocking too. Seems like the goal line blocking can look like the drill in the sense that guys are very low to the ground and sort of rolling a defender to one side or the other.

Techniques could be different at different schools. From what I remember, cut blocking technique is more about getting to the defender above the knee and rolling through where their feet were on the ground. On the goal line, it's more about getting your pad level below the other guys pad level and trying to create a seam, and if nothing more a pile for the running back to avoid or jump over.

I was a DL, so we worked on defeating cut blocks with our hands while keeping hips forward and pursuing the play. We weren't trying to get our pads below the cut block, we were trying to keep our feet away from the cut block so we could stay clear of the roll and pursue.

Brents needs at least 2 years with Doyle to be ready, he is crazy skinny. He needs 30 lbs or so.
Guys like that do not put on 30 lbs. unless they hit the roids. If he gains 20 lbs. that would be great. I thought he was going to be the next generation FS but he may always be a corner. Maybe in the old days when guys didn't really lift in high school you could make gains like that with his natural build but most of these guys have already lifting pretty hard for 3 or 4 years now a days. ISM who seems to have a similar build really hasn't gained anything in over a year. I think we see how much so of the O & D lineman gain with Doyle and think you can prorate for every position.

Don't leave out the nutritional side of things Under Doyle. They can put weight on this guy and will. He gon have to eat like a horse tho.

In our zone blocking schemes, I'd say that would be correct. Especially for guys on the backside who are trying to get their head across the defender and just give the back enough time to clear the line of scrimmage.
