My father still gets MBB tickets but I don't go when I am in Iowa anymore.... not until Barta and this trash is out the door. Barta is the worst AD in the country and U of Iowa sports are a joke. Football is repairable if KF retires, BF leaves, KC is promoted to OC, Phil to HC, Polasek is sent packing and Stanley is not longer the starting QB.

Basketball is back to low spot when Alfraud and Licked were in charge. Iowa basketball needs a new George Raveling ( An African-American HC that can really recruit kids that can play above the rim).
A guy like Jerrance Howard (native to Peoria , IL) would be a positive move in the right direction. The guy is under 40, has a great recruiting rep and has played and coaches Larry Brown and Bill Self. The guy has recruited against Top 10 MBB clubs and won. Coaching experience at Mid-majors has not helped IOwa become a winner. It's time for a roll of the dice but Barta needs to be fired, to start the change.

I cannot STAND FOR FRAN anymore. He is the Sonny Corleone of Iowa Basketball.

It is safe to say that Kansas recruits 5 star recruits
because of its legendary history as one of the blue
bloods of college basketball. Coach Bill Self is being
investigated by the NCAA for violations. However,
the Kansas brand will never die.

Gary Barta won Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year in 2016, has been included in several high profile NCAA committees, and was added to the CFP Selection Committee this year.

so at least a few important people disagree with you.

JFC, do you ever get tired of tirelessly and obsessively defending Barta and Fran?

I don't GAF what a group of "important people" think. The contract extensions Barta has given both Fran and Kirk are ridiculous. That's not even mentioning the PR debacles he's had that have been pretty inexcusable.

Get a new shtick.

And what the hell does that have to do with anything Iowa related?

If posting verifiable facts is defending someone, then maybe you are on the wrong side of the argument?

Iowa football is not a joke. That's pretty melodramatic. And Iowa basketball about made the Sweet 16 last year.

You are correct that Barta is a bad AD, for many reasons. I also believe Kirk needs to retire and Fran should have been fired two years ago.

Let's not get carried away, though.
I'm fine with KF, but it's hard for me to argue about keeping Fran....

Would you like to discuss the verifiable facts of Kirk and Fran's contracts? Would you like to discuss the verifiable facts of the $6.5 million dollar settlement the athletic department shelled out? Wasn't the first investigation of its kind, either. And I suppose you're on the side of Barta with the whole Dolphingate fiasco, right?

Yes, there are plenty of verifiable facts out there. You cherry pick the ones you like and have the gumption to insinuate objectivity.

Lol. GTFO. We get it. You would ride Barta and Fran's dicks any chance you get. So stop acting like you're bringing some cogent argument to the table.

Please explain your thought process, they both have about the same winning percentage. Why choose one over the other? All things being equal, they are performing at about the same rate.
KF = .608
FM = .580
This is not an argument to keep or fire either of them, I'm just trying to understand your thoughts.

Two thoughts from this thread

1. L Wade is tremendous at his job defending Barta at all costs. He deserves what he is paid.

2. I hope Under Armor likes Barta enough they will hire him from us.

My U of Iowa connections tell me Gary Barta may be in for a round 2 lawsuit with a fired (female) coach that will cost some big bucks(7 figures). Barta is loved by many loyal Iowa fans and admins because he is a very good fundraiser for the sports program. Barta's management and documentation skills are terrible.

UA must be trying to get Iowa to switch to them from Nike with that award to ole GB.

Wow, a disciple of both Larry Brown and Bill Self? Don't see any problem there.

Really. Unless Barta costs the U of I millions more in lawsuits he isn’t going anywhere. MBB isn’t even close to where it was under Lick. FB is at historical average under KF and Fry, could do a lot worse. What about other sports teams, what about fundraising. You don’t have to like the guy, but he’s far from the worst AD out there.

I love the "just about made the Sweet 16" on Fran's resume.

It's like the "was in contention for the West" on Ferentz's. No shit, it's really tough to mathematically be out of contention in a group of 7 teams.

Lol.

I get it, Barta isnt a good AD.....been saying that for several years.

Hiring a George Raveling? To coach or recruit? To recruit......yes. To be the head coach....hard Pass! His coaching record was less that stellar and that includes just 2 NCAA tourney wins in 6 appearances.

KF is fine.

Raising money for all the future lawsuits. Smart if you ask me.

Fran gets beat down all the time.
1 ranked season in a decade.
No sweet sixteen.
Hasn't shown he can develop players like KFs staff, not even close.
Etc

If I was Pres at Iowa ,Barta would have been canned for the big lawsuit and even thinking about the expensive contract extensions.

I've never understood this horsesh*t argument. A bulk of the athletic department revenue is TV money that has absolutely nothing to do with Barta. Good fundraiser? In what way? Iowa has a passionate fan base that will continue to buy tickets, and loads of old big-time boosters that will be there regardless of team performance or who the head honcho is. You could put a chimpanzee in the Iowa A.D. office and not lose much revenue. What Iowa needs is an A.D. that can find the right coaches and then hold them accountable. With very few exceptions, he is really bad at both.

Compared to what? How are the other sports doing outside of MBB and FB?

Said monkey would fundraise as well as Barta & i'm confident the monkey would not deplete the athletic dept's reserve fund losing lawsuits due to his own incompetence. Give me the monkey.

Soccer, Football, Field Hockey and Men's and Women's hoops all got to the post season this year. Baseball the year before. You can throw some shade at Gary's administrative Faux Pas' but as a fund raiser he has done quite well and it has NOTHING to do with the TV money. Gary has made some fine hires and yes some iffy ones. I imagine 90% of all people that hire people make mistakes. Gary Barta is no exception. I know I have made mistakes as well.

In 2007 Todd Lickliter was coach of the year. Important people thought he was a great coach, doesn’t necessarily mean he was.

I count a grand total of 8 Big Ten championships in all sports under GB's watch in 13 years at the helm, including 4 in wrestling, and I believe only 2 by a coach that he hired. Iowa has never finished higher than 9th in Big Ten Director's Cup rankings (and that was when the conference was only 11 schools), and typically is 12th-13th.

Any other questions?

I hope you're not serious. That "award" is just something passed around to 4 different A.D.'s every year to celebrate themselves. You serve long enough, you're going to get it. The fact that it was awarded to GB is overwhelming proof that the success of your athletic department in on-field competition is not necessary.

Just from a quick google search, we finished 7th last year
