On our 12 Saturdays podcast this week, Scott Dochterman of The Athletic told us that he thinks there is a very good chance Iowa will win out and represent the West in Indy and - if they somehow win that matchup - could still be alive for a CFP appearance.

We were a bit stunned to say the least, but he has some good stuff on why he thinks Iowa might be the best team in the Big 10.

Worth a listen HERE or subscribe on iTunes, Stitcher or wherever you get podcasts.

Long ways to go. Could easily crap the bed in any game remaining.

I really like our chances to win out in the regular season. PSU will be the big test, obviously. Getting past OSU in the Big10 championship, however, is a different beast.

If we somehow manage to win tge remainder of our games we will more likely than not be in the CFP.

Weirdly, I am more worried about Purdue than Penn State.

I mean, I know it was Illinois, but I think they put up around 600 yards of offense last week!

I said after the Wisconsin game that I see Purdue playing a roll in deciding the West division. Iowa plays at PU and Wisconsin has them at home (I believe).

I’m not sure I’d be more worried about PU than PSU, but I like Iowa’s odds in both if the offense continues to play like they have.

I'd feel confident in purchasing Big10 Championship tickets after the PSU game.

It was nice in 2015 when Iowa locked it in so early that fans could buy tickets early.
Bladel actually does reserve two hotel rooms downtown for the Championship weekend every summer. Pretty smart, as you can cancel up to a couple weeks in advance for no penalty. And if you don't, pickings get slim fast!

Wisky plays at Purdue as well. Good thing for Iowa is Purdue plays OSU then MSU before Iowa. Maybe a couple beat downs will soften them up before Iowa.

I just think it's interesting that this stuff is all coming after games against Minnesota and Indiana. Typical KF, one score wins won't get you that sort of talk. This is about style points.

All way too premature before the next few weeks.

But past iterations of KF-led Iowa teams often didn't put up style points on teams like Minny and IU. In fact, sometimes, they dropped head-scratchers to them. I like the new kicking-ass and taking-care-of-business Hawks.

In before somebody gives the “let’s just concentrate on opponent X first,” as if we all play for Iowa.
No, but we all watch Iowa and those paying any attention know we can look our best then worst on back to back outings (PSU/Mich '16, OSU/Wisc '17). Go ahead and book em if u want, I'm not wasting my time/energy til mid November if Hawks keep winning. After 20 yrs I don't count my baby hawks before they hatch.

Awesome post. Except that it doesn’t relate whatsoever to what I said.

I don't disagree. Just thinking about how such talk gets started. Style points are a very good thing. I hope they can win Saturday, and rack up a few more.

I just purchased the “face value option” it was only 10$ a ticket. So if we don’t make it I’m only out 50$.

Where everything I have seen for awhile is prepay no refund rooms?

Jmo but I believe Purdue is hitting a stride I believe the Iowa Purdue game will determine the west I think Wisconsin loses 2 more at Purdue and at PSU
I also think Michigan is taking the east. They have the #2 defense in the country oh by the way Iowa is at #5.So does a 1 loss big champ make it in I believe Michigan does with their resume but iowa on the other hand beating a one loss Michigan doesn't necessarily mean Iowa's a lock to get to the cfp. If they beat osu iowa is a lock to get in jmo

Might want to start buying your tickets to NW and Nebraska games too. If we keep winning I have no doubts NW will be another sell out.

Wisconsin still needs to lose twice or to Northwestern or and Iowa wins out. None of those other things matter until then.

Edit: For what it's worth, I don't think he's crazy to say that although I'm not sold that Iowa are the level with OSU and Michigan yet. I think they could be, but they need to show me something against good teams first.

Are you forgetting all about our "black cat", the U of Northwestern?
We are the better team but...

Or go to the championship game every year as our group does. Always a great time and reasonably priced tickets when ordering when they first go on sale (then you are also grandfathered in for future years). Wish more Hawk fans would do this.

Even if we don't get to Indy this year it almost has a feel of at least one additional win a year with this new style/old style mix. Let Brian keep stepping on the gas!

god i hope our coaches and players truly are taking one game at a time.

one thing about OSU, they don't have their normal mobile QB, so if our DL got pressure on him.....

but lets beat Maryland first! too many tough games left

Either Wisconsin or Northwestern take a TKO effectively when they play on 10/27. loser of that one is done in the west race.

You honestly think a 1 loss Big Ten team, after having beaten PSU and an undefeated OSU/CFP hopeful in the championship game, gets left out? I beg to differ.
