It's a no-brainer decision for the Titans. Greene turns 30 in August, hasn't been effective since his 2009 rookie year with the Jets and had no guaranteed money left on a contract that was set to pay him $3.35 million this season. In two years since getting a three-year, $10 million deal with $4.5 million guaranteed from Tennessee, Greene rushed 171 times for 687 yards with six touchdowns. The Titans drafted their new big back in David Cobb two months ago.

Shonn was great college RB, but not that great at NFL level. I guess he was smart to take the money and leave Iowa early. We might have had a National title in 2009 with a Shonn Greene and no Bootleg call vs NW...that is as close as I think Iowa will ever get. Great memories, but not much excitement anymore.

Was this necessary?

Some are only happy being unhappy. I dont think people get how close the 2008 team was to be great. A couple missed blocks and we pick up twp more wins. Who knows what would have happened had we had green in 2009. We might have relied on him too much. Moeaki was money that year. When that kid was healthy he was unstoppable.
