Enough about Suriano already.

If you need some optimism, here's a look at the average NCAA points scored by the past four Iowa classes:

1. Gilman (so): 15.5 avg (1 year in lineup)
2. Sorensen (fr): 14.5 avg (1 year in lineup)
3. Clark (so): 14.25 avg (2 years in lineup)
4. Telford (sr): 10.25 avg (4 years in lineup)
5. Evans (sr): 7.75 avg (4 years in lineup)
7. Brooks (so): 3 avg (1 year in lineup)
8. Dziewa (sr): 2.75 avg (2 years in lineup)
9. Moore (sr): 1.5 avg (4 years in lineup)
10. Grothus (jr): 1.0 avg (1 year in lineup)
11. Kelly (sr): 0.0 avg (1 year in lineup)

Only should see a drop off at Heavyweight and hopefully that is just a one year dip as Stoll clearly has the potential, it just remains to be seen how long it takes for that potential to be realized at a tough weight class for underclassmen (typically).

I don't think it is a stretch to think that Meyer can out point Evans average this year. Then of course everywhere else I see increases galore.

The information above states that the five seniors from last year scored a combined average of 22.25 points for their time under the big lights.

That comes to just over four points each on average scored at Nationals over the course of five careers. Telford pulled about half of weight himself.

At least the underclass men seem to be off to a better start.

Burak somehow got deleted. He is #6 at 5.8 avg (3 seasons).

The bad news is that Tomasello, Bo Jordan, and Snyder scored 24.5, 19.5, and 18, respectively, in their first season. Ohio State outscored us with only 4 guys (the 3 above + Stieber, who scored 26). Courts's unexpected 10 points were irrelevant. Studs win NCAAs. Mid-low AAs don't.

Nice work Tarp.

Boy Evans and Mick Moore stand out to me. As good as Evans was he didn't translate into points at NCAA's.

I cant help but just stare at Brooks. I mean this kid has finalist written all over him. So such a fine line between a Gabe Dean early draw and points. Big tens just ruined his seed but its a new year. Brain fart losses to McCutch, Abounder and Ok st kid wont happen again. Plus not going out and getting a win vs Miklus hurt quality wins. I will say right now Sammy may end up most improved guy in the country based on last years NCAA points to what I project this coming year. And you had to have been in the tourney last year so a Meyer wouldn't count.

you know, I would like to see the amount of individual dual points scored last season and how many starts?

Id feel pretty good about Clark leading that this season because he will lead the team in falls.

I think Clark is going to be a big point getter for the Hawks also. He seems to be the best and most complete wrestler on the team. Great on top. Scrambles incredibly well. Can't be held down and has a pretty good set of attacks on his feet.
He will be exciting to watch this year.

Thank goodness somebody responded. I thought it was a good topic.

You know Lookleft. I was thinking about who the most complete was when I was typing this. I slightly disagree. I think Sorny and Brooks may be the most complete guys in all positions. Clark is right there but what separate's Clark is he is just so dominate at turning and scrambling. However Brooks can tilt pin a big dude which is impressive in his own right. Hard to argue either way?

What we can agree on is the high level of consistency needs to be there for all 3.

What's funny or odd is I have Gilman 4th. He just disappears on offense to much for me. Would love to see that kid that destroyed Klimara more often and not the kid that danced with Dance at midlands all 7 min.

I tend to give the little guys a bit more credit because they are quicker and I am a little guy also. I am a big fan of Brooks. His family is total class and they are great people, but I would put him behind Clark as a complete wrestler. I do not think he scrambles as well. I would probably rank him ahead of Clark as far as exciting to watch though.

I would put Brooks as the second most complete wrestler, because he actually turns people. Sorny can ride, but he is not a big turner (yet), therefore I would put him behind Brooks. Sorny has a better defense on his feet than Brooks and I could see someone ranking him ahead of Brooks on that alone.

I agree with Gilman being number 4 on the list. He seems to only have a few takedowns and he does not turn many people. Great defense on his feet and tough as nails and a bit mean. He is quite a stud to be the #4 most complete wrestler on a team.

If Brooks makes the finals, then I think you would have a stronger case for him being the most complete wrestler. Hard to put him ahead of a 2 time AA and a finalist. The only reason I have him ahead of Sorny is because Brooks throws and turns people. - also I love his heart and fearless attitude.

BS's offense went in the toilet after his match with Tshirt in CHA and he got ridden pretty good at the end of the year.

Ya. And vs houdy too. But to go to STL and lose that early and wrestle back to the 3rd place match might be a blessing in disguise. There has to be mental hurdle.confidence thing that was cleared. I don't care who.you are. That showed.me something.

I have zain as fav to win 149 but sorny will be rigr there.

I think it would be tough to decide who was just the plain toughest kid on the team. It would have to be between Gilman and BS. Brooks is just plain fearless.

Gilman...he doesn't give two f*cks...came back and pinned Garrett after seeing the lights in the semis. Could have sulked but didn't...love the kid.

Agree here, as a Hawkeye fan Gilman getting planted in the semis was one of the most stomach wrenching moments at NCAA's i've witnessed in my very short time as a wrestling fan, mainly because I thought "Here it is, Gilmans golden path to the finals, he can beat Tomasello and bring the title to us!"

I'm really glad he didn't wrestle after his semis loss like the bigger of the two staches. Wrestled tough as nails against Waters too, got caught in a high flyer that was the difference in the match.

So 2016 interested in Iowa.
Rathbun, Isley, Happal, Colbray, Hall, Karsten. Degen... Am I missing anyone? Who do we get? Who do we need? I'm excited to see Rathbun and Happal at night of conflict against quality kids in folk style.
