To me, the biggest play of the game was....

Second and 2 on the next to last drive. Hawks had a big pass play, then 8 yard run on first down. Great field position and we were moving the ball. All we have to do is keep moving the chains.

So what did we do? Run wide. A play that had no chance. Result: 3 yard loss and forced into an obvious passing situation.

Personally I would have run a quick hitter between the tackles with the FB or RB. Or play action with Stanley rolling out.

Better still, a call that was set up, and which would have caught Wisconsin completely by surprise, because they would never expect it (because I’m not sure the Hawks have even run one this season): a screen pass. Not a bubble or wr screen....a regular screen pass to the rb. We could have taken advantage of Wisconsin’s aggressiveness for a nice....maybe even a big..gain.

I was thinking the same thing. At that point in the game we were getting great push by the center and two guards. Why try going outside. Get the first down

I believe that was an audible. It seems like other teams have picked up on our tendencies when we audible. Should have audibled to a pass play.

Iowa is infamous for abandoning the run between the tackles when it works for the outside zone shit that gets stuffed.

Same thing vs 2014 Nebraska. Weisman was doing work between the tackles then we abandon it.

I think this staff thinks that some plays are working too well.

I said that earlier. I think our coaches are trying a little too hard to be “unpredictable” that it’s costing them in key situations. I agree we were getting a push and running pretty good. Then we try a sweep against an athletic LBs. Makes zero sense, just run it up the gut and get the first down. Keep the clock running in that situation.
