Today on twitter.

If You own a property and are causing no problems to neighbors then those same neighbors should mind thier own business and not try to force their rules on You, this is America. As for the roads isn't that what cities , counties , States vulture taxes to maintain. These associations are a bunch of Communists

If you read the article ... the side they were painting was more on the side of the neighbors. You're saying that there is two sides to every story ... but you're not even allowing for any validity to the Ferentz's side of the story.

As for your remark about Ferentz having an insular attitude ... do you remember part of the reason why George Raveling left Iowa? The University of Iowa has a great campus ... the academic environment is great ... the fan support is great ... but it is also has almost all the trappings of a terrible fishbowl too. When Kirk and his family are out ... you can imagine that they likely expect that people will be up in their business. However, I think that it makes sense that a person who lives most of their life in a fishbowl really might like some privacy too.

Thankfully George left. Lute left for some of the same reasons. The dispute is interesting. Anyone who lives in that neighborhood can easily pay for that road. The bike riding issue seems odd as the kids of the neighbors probably aren't riding their bikes out there now. Both families involved are good people.

Ironically, part of the purpose of the home owners association is motivated by very capitalist motives. Home owners in a region want to protect the value of their house and/or property.

*Disclaimer* I didn't read the article, and I don't know the layout of the Ferentz's neighborhood.

I live just outside city limits in a small town. Our neighborhood is a one block private drive. An HOA is necessary to insure and maintain our private road. Without an HOA, our road would require 15 separate insurance policies and snow removal contracts; plus widely varying road maintenance/improvement standards.

Minimal HOA's are sometimes necessary, as detailed above. Intrusive HOA's suck. My quick rule of thumb regarding the difference is this: If the HOA president is drawing a salary, it's probably going to suck.

However, the bottom line is that if you don't want to adhere to HOA by-laws, don't build/move there.

The difference in this case is that the association didn't exist when they moved out there and the others in the neighborhood tried to force the Ferentzes' to join after the fact and they said no. There was a clause that stated the HOA had to be unanimously approved, which it obviously wasn't, and they are now trying to enforce the regulations as if were. The courts already ruled in the Ferentzes' favor earlier, and I can't imagine they won't again if it comes to that. They shouldn't be forced to join an association they want no part of and to pay for things they don't need or want. The neighbors think the opposite, for some reason.

I have no problem with that whatsoever, and my post was a direct reply to another statement.

There’s really gawkers and stalkers that go to see Ferentz house? Really? Why?
Just because you or I wouldn't hang outside his house doesn't mean they don't have privacy issues. His status as Iowa's coach for 20 years, and yes his salary as the highest paid state employee make him a celebrity to a lot of people. He and Mary are private people, and would like to avoid all this at all costs, but have come to realize that with this celebrity comes the opportunity to do some good, with their donations, and things like the ladies football academy. However they'd like home to be their sanctuary if possible.

Very weird take on things. Perhaps you know more than what it appears but it seems like you're demonizing the neighbors without knowing any of them personally (did you know, for instance, that one of them and is an upstanding, highly professional, important cancer specialist at University Hospitals?). Look, I'm not taking sides here as I have no stake in things. However, one could just as easily say that because Ferentz and family are "celebrities" doesn't mean they own the neighborhood or deserve special treatment because of who they are. In fact, the insular attitude they seem to be showing seems consistent with the way Coach Ferentz runs his program, hiring a family member to a key position, for instance. He has tried to place other family members on the payroll as well. Rest assured, this is something that wouldn't be allowed in many places of employment. Bottom line: There are two sides to every story.
Look around major college football and basketball, and tell me that hiring of relatives or close friends as staff members isn't going on almost everywhere. Between this topic and the salary thing its amazing how it gets beat to death on this site, when it is so much a part of the landscape of college sports, but people act like its a "Kirk thing".

If I had to guess he is a Nebraska lean. But I have 0 evidence to support that other than the crystal balls are all Nebraska.

Didn't realize he has offers from PSU and Georgia, along with Miss, Miss State, Va Tech and Ohio State. Anyone know who leads? Is ISU/Neb a serious player in his recruitment? CB does have a lot of Big Red fans due to proximity obviously...
Yea but looked who called the crystal balls a lot of Nebraska sports writers and they are the biggest homers in the sports world

Check out @carmin_jc’s Tweet:

Not sure what to think about all the turnover at purdont. They appear to be doing some SEC like turnover of the roster.
