Exactly. We better enjoy this while we can. The last 20 some years says this season is a blip and nothing more. MSU does have some athletes but not playing well together consistently, and I think it all starts with there being unsettled at the point guard. As Iowa fans we should understand that.
It's the worst MSU team since perhaps 1997. You are right, I wouldn't expect it to become a regular thing. They have no point guard and their big men are either bad or inexperienced, or both. I don't know what they have coming in next year, but if history says anything they are probably addressing those deficiencies.
I watched Izzo's comments and I'll just disagree a bit. Izzo hasn't won as much as he has by being a good loser. If Nunge, CMac and Murray shoot like that every game, Iowa would be better than 9-5 in the league. By the same token, these guys have scholarships and if they are making the shots you have to go guard them. Brandon Johnson from Minnesota has made 13 3-pointers all year, and he made 8 of those against Iowa in the game Iowa lost in OT at the Barn. Outside of the Iowa game, Johnson has made 5-30 3's all year. Shame on Iowa for not getting on him once he got hot, but going in he was not someone they needed to pay attention to.
CMac made 25% of his season total to date of 3's against MSU. He's 12-42 in other games from 3. Nunge didn't really hurt MSU from deep, he made only 1. But he's scored in double figures 6 times this year, so it's not like he's incapable. Him having a big game is due to him playing well and MSU's big men sucking rocks.
Murray is actually shooting 36% from 3 point range, so that's on them for not respecting him. I just don't get that worked up by opposing coaches not being nice after the game. Izzo is embarrassed by his team's performance, he should be. His game plan blew up in his face. The more mature thing to do would be to just say "we concentrated a lot on Garza and their other players made a ton of shots. Credit to them. They kicked our butts." And move on.
