TOM BRANDS interview

Lots of good stuff in there. Touched on how the fans perceive Alex Meyer, indicated positive signs about Stollhouse.

I read that as him saying Alex is not going to be a point scoring push the pace machine like Ironside.
This. Alex Myers is what he is. He knows how to win matches on the mat and in the third period. He is not super explosive but he seems to win. Myer's season will be judged by how he preforms in March. It shouldn't be judged by whether he is able to bonus Joe Schmoe from Purdue. It is going to come down to him hopefully winning a bunch of probably close matches and probably on the backside at NCAAs.

He also said, Meyer doesn't wrestle how he (Brands) wants him to wrestle. It must be incredibly frustrating as a coach to have someone you've invested that much time in, with that much ability wrestle the style we've seen early on. Alex has had some matches where he was dynamite and brought excitement.

As Iowa fans we almost always would rather a guy wrestle his @ss off and lose, then to do nothing and eek out a win. Alex probably doesn't see things that way, he seems thus far to want to wrestle conservatively and not make any big mistakes. He is possibly consciously trying not to get into those early holes that he's been infamous for. As he showed last year at NCAA's, when he up against it, he's fully capable of going on a run.

Other than his AA match against Ohio, every match Alex had at NCAAs was exciting, I hope we see more of that this season.

Finally come to terms with this.
In the words of Al Davis "just win baby!"
