Tom Brands Preseason Interview

I think I'm even more confused about 157 & 165 now. The initial response seems like St John @ 157 & Paddock @ 165 with Rhoads and Cooper on the outside looking in at the moment @ 165 & 157 respectively. I thought SSJ was 165 from Tom's previous interview and Rhoads was going 157. I guess they are adjacent weights so maybe I have understood properly. That would be a first.

Brands translation machine (accuracy not guaranteed):

I expect titles from Gilman, Clark, Sorensen and Meyer.

Carton is the slight front runner at 141 over Ryan but I'm going to wrestle them both at Grand View before making a decision for Okie State. I'm not even going to talk about Grothus until he's healthy and has his weight down.

St John is the slight front runner at 157 over Cooper (or maybe I'm just pissed off at Cooper this week). I'm going to wrestle them both at Grand View.

Rhoads will be our back-up at 65. I don't have anything great to say about Paddock except he's our guy there.

Brooks is a bit of a head case and needs to suck it up.

I'm going to be pissed at Burak if he places 7th or 8th again. He's too damn nice.

Stoll is great in Greco, but he's got a lot of work to do in collegiate.

I was a little confused about the comments at 157 and 165 as well but Tarp's interpretation makes perfect sense. Thanks Tarp!!

Great stuff. I loved this one: "the football term – bringing his lunch pail."

welcome back todd, noticed turk was mentioned as a possible, hope it doesn't come to that.

Certainly does not sound all that positive at 157 & 165, for that matter nor does 141. Grandview should give us a clearer picture at these weights for Okla State. Go Hawks!!!

Thank you for the feedback from the posters above.

I am not that concerned about the weights in question... at this time. I am looking at the individuals that have the potential to be in the National Finals. There is a long, long road to travel before Madison Square Garden has our fullest attention.

I will have my weight-by-weight rundown of the Iowa Wrestling team for my blog next week.

In closing, any team that starts off with Gilman and Clark, is a team for me to be very excited about.

Go Hawks!
