Tony Perkins. Feb 25 was his Break out game. Last 8 Games Averages: 12.1 pts, 4.6 rebs, 3 assists, 53% from Three, 52% from 2 Pt Range

Phenomenal game by Tony Perkins. He always seems to play like he's two or three inches taller than he really is.

Love what he brings to this team.
Hadn't thought of it till now, but reminds me a bit of James Winter. He played well above his height.

Iowa missed a boatload of bunnies in the first half. One that stood out to me was the 2-handed layup that Standfort missed. No reason for that.
I thought he looked really good on that shot - quick catch and shoot under the basket. Just a little too quick I think. And he got the rebound to start with.

Regarding Sandfort, yes, everything was really nice until the final execution. He rushed it. That has pretty much been his issue this year when he has had problems. When he settles down and lets the game come to him, he does great.

It seems like a little known player always has a career night when the Hawks play play the mid/ lower division Big10 teams, so a little reverse mojo action is long overdue.

It's really funny when we win. Where are all the trolls? Tony for all B1G and we should keep Fran for a couple of more games until we lose a game. And not one words about Fran playing his kids let alone wasting a couple of scholarships because they are related....Purdue better look out!!!
How dare no one complain after a win.

I think what happens when guys head to the hoop, and see some traffic coming, their eyes trail away just for an instant to see whats coming or to calculate a safe landing, and that instant is enough for then to alter the shot just enough.

Winters was more 6'4" or 5" and even more explosive off the jump. I remember him holding his own quite a bit as Iowa's post player. Not a jump shooter though and don't remember him driving much. He was more of an undersized low block guy for the most part.

HOME SWEET HOME

Iowa sophomore guard Tony Perkins, who is from Lawrence North in Indianapolis, sank 6 of 9 shots en route to 16 points.

"A lot of people who have seen me through high school know what I can do and now I can bring it to the next level," Perkins said. "Playing in my home city and seeing everyone in the crowd really boosted my energy a lot."

Tony's Stats today:

25 minutes

2-3 (67%) from 3
4-6 (67%) from 2 point range
............................
6-9 (67%) Overall

2-2 (100%) FTs

16 Points
3 assists
1 Rebound

Honestly surprised to see him only get one rebound, he’s been pounding the glass lately, sometimes grabbing boards in a sea of bugs. He’s not afraid to play amongst the trees.

Tony, of course, played at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, IN.

What a homecoming for Tony.

Check this out:

On Jan 31, Iowa lost at Penn State 90-86 in double OT. Iowa's record after that game was 14-7, 4-6.

On Feb 6, vs Minnesota, Fran made 2 changes: (1) Jordan was back at starting Point Guard; (2) Tony Perkins was the new starting 2 guard.

I can't recall another player ever that had the kind of "awakening" that TP had a few weeks ago and sustained it. Sure players go off in a game and but return to "normal".

TP went from "well, he's ok", to "Wow!" in one game and hasn't looked back. Impressive!

Maybe he can give some of that magic to Ulis.

The only bug a boo over the last 8 games has been his FT shooting (just 64%). But, dang, he's shooting 53% from 3 and 52% overall from the field.
