Moving (lifetime?) shooting guards to the point rarely works, but thus far, it looks like a great decision. I can't remember the last time we played with a edge like this, and I think a big part of that is Tony's leadership.

Tony's a very good defender, and he's too big and strong for typical point guards to handle him defensively. He's also a surprisingly good passer with a natural knack for when to attack vs. when to slow it down.

Possibly most importantly, it looks like he finally gives us that guard who can make something happen with the ball in his hands in crunch time.

Here's to you, Tony Perkins. This is going to be a fun year.

Good post he has the ability to hang for a foul

Tony is a really good player. Probably best guard of Fran's time here. Really can take the ball to the hoop, can shoot it from deep and his ability to handle the ball is much better than expected. Have to agree, he's the best Fran has brought in

I agree with all the good things said about Tony. Just exactly the kind of guard we all like. Is anyone concerned though that in 3 games he has been whistled for 2 technicals? Needs to maybe be in control a bit more.
Both were lame. I've seen other team's players do the exact same things without the calls, and I've seen worse things not get called. Not sure why refs are targeting him.

I do agree they were both weak calls. But they were both called by B1G refs so he needs to be aware they are watching him. I bet Fran isn't worried though.

He reminds me of a longer Woolridge the way he's able to muscle his way around. Woolridge had a better outside shot though, from what I remember, but I was pretty young. Side note, I grew up in Sioux City and never knew Nebraska had a basketball team until Woolridge transferred to Iowa. 🤣

I don't mind - Iowa needs that kind of attitude from a player like Perkins and Iowa fans have been clamoring for it. It is one thing if he was getting T'd up for cheap shots or stuff like that but like was mentioned, they were weak and love to see that passion/mentality.

Woolridge was an absolute tank. If I recall, they made a big deal about how he could bench press like 400 lbs.

Tony did play some point in high school. He's a freaking stud, aggressive as hell and thinks he can beat anyone to the rim. Second half last night was awesome to see. Ulis was actually doing very well too, he just doesn't finish like Tony and is smaller. That lineup to end the game vs. SH is money. Some games I could see Ulis or Sandfort in the game but that's the only change I would make. Connor over Patrick is a must when it's crunch time.

I think Ulis game last night isn’t being talked about enough. He played very very solid. Great defense, had some great drive and drop offs. Him and perkins work well together in the backcourt, both being able to play the 1 or 2 with their size and physicality and being pretty much interchangeable. Fran is getting close to that “positionless” basketball. All the guys logging serious minutes can play multiple positions. Going to be fun to watch this team progress. Have some good tests coming up the next few weeks to see how we stack up!

Tony is easily the most complete guard under Fran. One of the best defenders, drivers, and finishers all in one package. Definitely the toughest. The only thing he's missing is the knockdown threes but he's still enough of a threat there to keep opponents honest.
I think Gatens and Marble fill the bill as well

Tony shot 33% from 3pt last year. It’s not as pretty as some but I think he will shot 35+% this season.

Iowa has great guards! Guards are the key to all basketball success.
LOL when’s the last time we heard good G play and Iowa under Fran in the same sentence ? This might be the best we’ve seen in the FM era..unfortunately the bar was set pretty damn low. That being said so far color me impressed with TP. Reminds me a bit of Andre Woolridge. Let’s hope this is a sign of good things to come

The T last night that he got was weak!

This comparison is a stretch.

Iowa fans just don't have many comparisons to draw from when it comes to athletic guards.

uhlis's defense off the ball was great last night. The combo of perkins and uhlis together gave us a formidable back court. My concern with both is still shooting the 3. .
Ulis has obviously not proven himself as a shooter but I see no reason to worry about Perkins shot.

I still think even with the questionable shot Iowa is better when they are playing together.
