Few GOP lawmakers attended the welcome ceremony in the Capitol building for Ginsburg, who will lie in state there; those who did not attend included Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (Calif.).
The most senior Republican in Statuary Hall was Minority Whip Steve Scalise (La.), seated next to Democratic vice-presidential candidate Sen. Kamala D. Harris (Calif.).
McConnell’s spokesman declined to comment on his whereabouts or schedule. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s spokesman said McConnell and McCarthy were invited.
The top Senate Republican has vowed to go forward with the confirmation of Ginsburg’s replacement, defying the late justice’s dying wish and reversing his stance that a president in his last year in office shouldn’t fill a vacancy on the nation’s highest court.

Just a theory. Could they have been absent so as to not have all the leadership in one place at one time? Kind of a state of the union deal?

MoscowMitch is suddenly scrambling to protect incumbent Republicans that seemed safe a couple weeks ago. Fundraising and firing up the base has taken on increased inportance with Dems suddenly looking to gain 6-8 seats rather than the four originally expected to change Party.

These are tough times to identify as a conservative.

So Mitch somehow has time to ram through picks and fundraise, but can't lift a finger for pandemic relief. Shows you where his priorities are.

he has said multiple times that his loyalty is reelecting Republican senators over the wishes of Donald Trump.

things are not going as he had planned… I’m starting to wonder if he’s going to tell Trump to screw himself and that he won’t let the Senate vote before the election. Of course, he would not say that publicly and find some other reason that he will falsely blame on the Democrats, though.

I expect a few Republicans to jump ship in the next month to try and save their own ass. Collins kind of has, as well as Gardner. How funny will it be if Graham does it.

A spokesman for Senator Mitch McConnell released the
following statement today:

"Senator McConnell did not have a black suit in his wardrobe
and therefore he lacked the proper color for mourning the
death of RBG. He expresses his sympathy for her death
to her family and his thanks for her service to our nation."

Maybe they didn't want the funeral ruined by the left yelling and chanting like the pieces of crap.

Too busy campaigning to win their seats

I know Kevin was shaking the GOP fundraising trees. He has been working overtime. Mitch may have been doing the same thing.
