The Senate’s top Democratic leaders lied about braces used on AR-15-style “pistols” before Thursday’s vote to support a controversial administration ban on the device designed to help handicapped people shoot, according to several Second Amendment advocates.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and deputy Dick Durbin (D-IL) gave false analysis of the purpose of the braces and the impact of using them in working to stop a GOP effort to block the ban from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, said the experts.

Their descriptions of the brace during a Senate debate resulted in a 50-49 vote Thursday to dismiss a bipartisan House vote against the ATF regulation and came after President Joe Biden also distorted the impact of putting the brace on an AR pistol, one of the “assault weapons” he wants to ban.

“The ignorance of lawmakers on the subject of firearms is second only to the thoroughly debunked rhetoric we constantly hear from President Joe Biden,” said Mark Oliva, spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the firearms industry’s representative in Washington.

Biden, in an anti-gun speech this week, seemed to suggest that the brace allows the shooter to use a bigger bullet, which is impossible. "Put a pistol on a brace, it turns into a gun — makes it more — you can have a higher-caliber weapon, higher-caliber bullet coming out of that gun,” he said.

On Thursday, Schumer said, “If you have ever seen a gunman fire what looks like a machine gun with just one hand, that’s what pistol braces allow you to do.” Machine guns are banned.

And Durbin, in the most twisted and distorted description of the brace and guns, said, “We all know that because of the ammunition magazines that can be strapped on to so many pistols that these become automatic weapons similar to AK-47s. Pistols with stabilizing braces have a reputation in this modern America, though they have been formally forbidden and prohibited, regulated for almost 90 years.”

“These braces don’t turn firearms into machine guns. They haven’t been banned in America for 90 years, as claimed by Sen. Durbin. They’ve been banned since June 1. They don’t turn [or] allow a firearm to shoot larger-caliber ammunition. These lawmakers are lying to the American people to advance an anti-gun narrative that only denigrates their fundamental constitutional rights,” Oliva said.

“At some point, when senators such as Schumer and Durbin are making ridiculously false statements about guns, you can’t even believe that they believe these claims. It is bad enough that they can’t acknowledge how these braces were designed to help disabled people hold on to a gun so that they could use it defensively, but for them to go and talk about these semi-automatic handguns as being machine guns, when they can’t even point to a single instance of this occurring, completely strains credulity,” said John Lott Jr., president of the
Crime Prevention Research Center.

One of the nation’s top gun lobbies, Gun Owners of America, posted the statements of the senators online, where they were mocked.

Erich Pratt, the senior vice president of the group, told Secrets, “The recent comments on firearms and pistol braces from the anti-gunners in Congress have proven they have no idea what they’re talking about and are simply just anti-Second Amendment zealots. They’re working to influence public policy at the detriment of law-abiding gun owners. At this point, we have to wonder if they have malicious intent or if they’re just ignorant — or both.”

And Justin Anderson, who is the marketing director for Hyatt Guns of Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the nation’s biggest sellers, said he believes the opponents were simply scaremongering.

“While this will create a bunch of memes, and gun folks will laugh or point fingers, gun industry insiders have known for years that most politicians have zero acuity when it comes to firearms. They are, however, well versed in creating fearmongering about the evil boogeyman flavor of the month; in this case, guns. Dick Durbin and his ilk are not stupid people. They know exactly what they’re doing by lying to the American people, and they know many will believe them,” he told us.

The new ATF ban could affect over 20 million owners of the weapons. After years of approving the use of the brace, the ATF changed course and now requires the guns to be destroyed or registered or the braces removed and trashed.

Just 250,000 registered their weapons by the June 1 deadline. They are likely hoping that the suits against the ATF make it to the Supreme Court, where it could be overturned.

Looks like it’s not really for people with disabilities but just so that people can more efficiently hunt down small children in schools.

With direct quotes included showing both the ignorance and dishonesty of Schumer, Durbin and the rest of those clowns. Why are you still posting anyway? Aren't you just a little bit embarrassed being proven to be a fraud?
Go easy on Ron, he's special needs.

Explain this conclusion. You know based on "the looks".
Well if you watch the video it says nothing about people with disabilities and is just about efficiency and how you can now just carry these guns with no worry. Also these are the guns used to kill lots of small children. I get that you rub one out when small children are slaughtered but maybe we can stop the real stuff and you people can just make smut movies to help you get your rocks off.

I can't even fathom how demented someone needs to be to even think what you posted, much less type it out. Seriously fvcked up.
Are you married? If so go read your post to your significant other and let us know what he/she says.

I can’t imagine how demented you have to be to want more efficient weapons out to kill kids.

She’d say, ‘yeah, let’s put regulations in place to try to have less murdered children’

No she wouldn't. She'd ask how thoughts like that even enter your fvcked up head as she's quietly planning her exit from what's undoubtedly a shitty relationship.
Which school shootings were committed with a braced AR pistol btw? You know since you claim that's what they're made for how bout you back it up?

I don’t know if any yet but I’m sure they’re coming. I said they were made for efficiency which is just going to help more children be murdered and for idiots like you to get off.

Nice backtrack clown. 20 million in circulation and none used in a school shooting, despite your claim "these are the guns used to kill lots of small children.". This is why Schumer and Durbin lied the way they did, they knew their sheep would lap it up and parrot it without hesitation.

They are the guns used to kill small children and these things can be attached to make it more efficient you fvcking moron. Get a fvcking fifth grade reading level. You’re too stupid to talk to.

*You're. You can't be a shitty editor or community College lacky making basic grammar errors.
Oh no. I’m typing on my phone and typed too fast! Thank God I was corrected and gave a piss ant a brief moment of self worth.

Ya still dumb.

The senators and Biden are mistaken here.

But this justification by the gun guys is silly:

It is bad enough that they can’t acknowledge how these braces were designed to help disabled people hold on to a gun so that they could use it defensively”

They might have been invented for that but are now just a way to circumvent the restrictions on short-barreled rifles. They used to sell them with qualifiers like “not meant to be shoulder fired” and other wink and a nod nonsense.

Well they aren't so you're wrong no matter how much you scream. Watching a random YouTube video doesn't make you an expert on a braced pistols. Stupid is debating a topic you know nothing about.

A YouTube video from people who make the braces and only talks about making guns more efficient and easier to carry. You’re the stupid one. You’re the one that wants these available. You’re the one who wants weapons used to murder children widely available.

Jfc, give it up. Making a gun easier to hold and carry doesn't in some way make it more likely to be used in a shooting. I've owned a few of these and shot many more. They're inherently inaccurate, and shoulder firing them is uncomfortable.
And for the I don't know third time, despite an estimated 20 million in circulation none have been used in school shootings. You're making yourself sound like an idiot by continuing to claim this. Or do you just not care?

It will be used in a mass murder and is unnecessary. But you like dead kids

They were either lying or they are just that stupid. In any case, it says all you need to know about the left.
