Topher on top

I wholly agree with you. Carton has the gas tank and physicality to make hay on the backside when others are tired and down from getting knocked to the consis. Every year you see top guys check out after a loss on the frontside. Carton will have no mercy and let it all hang out his senior year.

Carton has been an awesome surprise relative to pre-season 141 expectations. With his performances throughout this season, i have went from thinking 1-2, maybe 2-2 to now thinking R12, Low AA. Would not be surprised at all to see him on the podium.

There's no doubt he's wrestling very well and inspiring confidence.

I'm still not going to say AA until I see a larger sample size against ranked opponents.

He has wrestled a pretty weak schedule to this point. His best wins are against Gasca and Longo. They were solid wins but those guys are qualifiers at best and not AA contenders. #4 Matt Kolodzik had a 16-0 TF against Gasca so while Cartons' MD was nice, it's not indicative of an AA run.

As well as he wrestled against Heil, keep in mind that Heil is not someone who runs up the score. In 15 matches this year he's only won 7 with bonus points. He only beat North Carolina's backup, AC Headlee, 3-2 at the Scuffle.

I think the real measure will be Friday against Gulibon. If he beats Gulibon then I think he might have an argument for AA status. Wrestlers like Gulibon and Thorn are the kind he'll have to get past to reach that level.

10 seconds more in the 2nd, maybe Topher gets that reversal than it's a new match.
Thing I like about Topher is that he's a fighter. He's really hard to ride, and he's strong.
He just gets out of position a lot. He can muscle his way out of bad situations against the lower tier guys, but against top caliber guys like Heil, there's little room for error and they make him pay.
If Topher can stay tight with the top ten guys and stay aggressive without giving up a ton of points, he can win the match in the 3rd. That's where he will get those upset wins.

Screw being an AA. Topher can win the whole damn thing. He needs to keep believing and keep improving. That weight is there for the taking.

5 Near Certain AAs at 141 are Heil, McKenna, Jack, Kolodzik and Ashnault. Ward is a likely bet. None of the top 6 are in the Big Ten and FLO doesn't rank any Big Ten guy in their top ten. So that leaves Topher competing with DiCammillo, Thorn, Meredith, Eierman/Manley, Randy Cruz, Pletcher and McCrystal for those last few spots. Pletcher should be a good gauge to see where he's at.

I think Jack takes the title this year.
Of all the names you mentioned out of the top 6, I can unbiaslly say that Topher can most definitely beat all of those guys and will beat a few of those prior to NCAAs (Pletcher, McCrystal, Thorn)

He has proven that he has the heart and the talent. He needs to keep it going and change the close loses to wins. He still has time to progress, big 10's will be telling. If expected to AA he better win on Friday, as I don't think his opponent will and would mark a step in that direction. Time will tell.

Ashnault is Big 10, 6th on Flo and InterMat. I can see overlooking Rutgers as a Big 10 team

Am I missing something here? Gulibon will wrestle Carton this Friday. That should be the best immediate gauge. He did just dominate Thorn who you have listed.

Your right, Gulibon is another good test for Topher who I probably should have mentioned. However, I do think Thorn is superior to Gulibon (I am going off of how they looked last year). Thorn, as you know, wasn't reinstated to the team until January and so he is probably not in the best wrestling shape, but I expect him to be better when Big Tens and NCAAs roll around.

Heil is not a very good gauge, If he got up by 2 against my grandmother, He'd hang on the head for 3 periods and take the decision

I agree. I remember Kelly coming seconds away from beating Ness 2 years ago too.

That said, unlike Kelly, Carton doesn't wear cinder blocks for shoes.

As much as I would like to disagree. I can't unfortunately. Topher could get in the right spot in the bracket and maybe get a huge injury default or something I just don't see him becoming an All American. Here's to hoping he gets it done. Been watching Topher since he was a young kids. Would love to see him finish with a medal.

He deserves another post some are saying round of 12 they way he looks I'm saying AA..
Mr Carton you have a big fan on the east coast my man keep up the hard work it shows..
On Dec 4 I posted I thought Carton could beat Heil, came up a bit short but now I think he's got everyones attention. Just keep scrapping Topher.
