125: A just like limp bizkit he keeps rollin
133: B+ Laux was game. He only took 2-3 half shots and was never close to scoring but he did his job and was competitive
141: D+/C- carton has some match awareness issues
149: B+/A- (89-90%) solid match. Sorensen proved he's on a different level from Jordan which is the grade boost but where was that offense from last week? Micah was never close to scoring but we didn't do much on offense
157: A- Kem really could've and should've gotten the tf but that's something he'll learn with time
165: C- holy shit end of the 1st get the td don't try to stack him up. Burcher was gassed after 1 and all we could put up was 3 points?! Horrible effort
174: B- let's take a shot huh?
184: A brooks flat out better than Martin. Look for him to expand the margin next time. Martin could've been hit with stalling a couple times on bottom
197: C vanilla. A little worse than I expected but I knew it'd be a major
285: A good effort. Michael Myers was being a little bitch. Holloway with a much better effort than last week

174 - No grade. You have to take a shot to get a grade.

197 - Moore gets a solid A. Love to see guys constantly trying to score, especially at the heavier weights.
Is that the Moore Holloway beat their senior of high school?

Tough, solid wrestling by Gilman, Sorensen, Kemerer, and Brooks. Hard to win anything with four wrestlers, but we did, thanks to them.

No comment on anyone else except fifth-year senior and 0-career-NCAA-point-scorer Topher Carton, who gets an F for fulfilling his dream of walking onto the mat.

Only four kids looked ready to wrestle tonight: Brookes, Gilman, kemmer, and Moore.
I'd say Holloway looked ready. Probably needs to be more offensive in the first but caught bad break with the no call. I don't like that rule in that instance.

I will give you halloway, it seemed like once he got screwed there in the second it lit the pilot light in him. Definitely after injury time he looked like a man on a mission. Just wasn't thrilled with the first period action. It just seemed like a dull meet overall with iowa fans knowing the win was a forgone conclusion.

Bo was exhausted. Meyer had an opportunity and failed to capitalize.
this next statement of mine would get 1000 down votes on a site that has them.
Meyer will not AA - He is a dangerous counter puncher. Guys like Jordan know this and will smile and walk away with a 3-2 win.

Hate to agree with you... but I do. Hope we are wrong. He needs to make some changes or it will not happen. It is getting late in his career to make those changes.

Yep found it, pinned Hunter Ritter at same tournament, too, Disney Duals.
I dont care what happens in The room. Most people say Wilcke was beating Holloway, but I beat you Holloway beats some of these guys Wilcke is losing to right now at 97. I understand why they are both up this year, but I beat Holloway would be a low AA at 97. Which is. Better for the team. It's Unfortunate that Stoll had injuries and also that Iowa didn' t recruit a back up heavy weight and not put Holloway in this situation because he is a better option at 97. I don't want to here any Bradley talk either because Brands would not of pulled his shirt this year to have him wrestle after a two year mission . I'm not knocking Wilcke, he is just to small for the weight. I think he is gonna do great next year at 84.

Wish I shared your enthusiasm about Wilcke and Holloway at 184 and 197. I see them as the last vestiges of the old Brands recruiting strategy. I'm looking forward to Warner and I wish we'd nabbed Moore.

Okay, okay, we won tonight, after all. I've got to chill and just enjoy the victory. (Talking myself down.)

Bo Jordan might have the strongest grip/arm strength of anyone in college wrestling.
Whenever he got in on Alex's legs and Alex would sprawl and get to his favorite counter td position, Meyer couldn't budge his leg. Bo kept those legs nailed in place.
If Meyer can't score from his favorite position against a physically strong opponent like Bo, he's gotta find different ways to take guys down.

Agree on the physically strong but Alex probably had the best chance to beat him tonight, if ever. Those snap downs were brutal. Best to not tie up with the guy.

Who were the schools that Moore were interested in attending?

I'm getting sick of Topher Carton. And I'm not talking about him losing. For the sake of the Gable legacy continuing, if you're going to put on a Hawkeye singlet, especially at Carver, at least make some offensive attempts.

The same thing can be said for Meyer for tonight.

Carton has regressed the last 2 weeks. He started the season scoring points. Not sure why but this seems to happen to at least one of our guys every year.

Just put Wilcke at heavyweight and Holloway at 197. That way at least one of them can score some points...

Yep, maybe Wilcke comes around by dropping down to 184, but I'm not seeing anything out of him that makes me think he's going to fare much better just by wrestling guys his own weight. He has few advantages wrestling up a weight, but the ones he has he doesn't use, IMO (I know, it's a tough gig that he certainly didn't ask for).

I'm just really sick of watching undersized 197 lbers more often than not in Iowa lineups. Thankfully we had Burak for a while. Honestly, from a team perspective, dual or tournament, we're better off having Holloway at 197 and forfeiting HWT or pulling someone off the street to wrestle there. If either qualify for Nationals 1 win is going to be asking a lot between the 2 of them, and really it probably isn't their fault (unless Holloway on his own decided he couldn't be a 197 lber any more and stole some of Big Sam's cookies over the summer).

Just watched the dual on tape delay. Random observations:

Thought the stalemate was called way too early in Sorensen's match with Little Jordan. Impressive ride in the third and impressive defense by Brandon on his feet.

Hard to understand the lack of offensive attempts overall (133, 149, 165), but especially at 141 and 174, when our guys were tied or losing by one. The strategy of laying back and hoping your opponent gets over-extended on a bad shot in the third period has not proven to have a high rate of success. TnT must be pulling their hair out.

Kemerer looked great. Ryan is having a difficult year, but no one has really taken it to him as badly as Kemerer did last night. Ryan lost to Joe Smith 11-9 last year in SV in the NCAAs.

I found myself thinking how badly Marinelli would have taken apart tOSU's 165 lber. At one point, the tOSU guy was limping on his way back to the center of the mat. I kept waiting for an offensive attack on a guy who appeared to have one functioning leg, and kept waiting, and waiting, and waiting.

Bo Jordan's No. 1 ranking is not well-founded. Strong as an ox but he doesn't move well and his offense is limited. Meyer let an opportunity slip away there.

Refs were erratic with the stall calls. I didn't mind when they called them, even against the Iowa guys who were often slow to make offensive moves, but how did they not call them on Martin in the 3rd period? They were clearly showing deference to a former national champion. If that were a no-name wrestler from tOSU or Iowa laying on his belly for 30 seconds, he would have been dinged for stalling.

Moore was really impressive and Wilcke looked out-classed out there. I know Cash is up a weight and I remember how Sammy Brooks his RS freshman year went up to 197 and lost to McIntosh 16-1. But Sammy was going for it every step of the way against McIntosh. Can't believe that TnT and Wilcke think that was the best Wilcke could have performed against an admittedly very able wrestler.

Nato looks like a pocket-sized version of Lou Ferrigno out there. I know Laux avoided a major but there wasn't much drama other than whether Nato would win by 8 pts or more. Desperately want to see Clark's guile and skill measure up against Nato's strength.

Its not that he has regressed, its just that he is an above average offensive wrestler. He can get to his offense against average guys and can't against the better guys. I think these guys come in offensive or not. Its a rare guy you can make into an top level offensive wrestler once they get to college if they don't already have it.

But Topher's defense is pretty bad. He is much better off getting to his offense and letting the chips fall where they may. If he becomes more offensive and wears guys down, he has a better chance of beating these fringe AA/R12 type guys. Sitting around waiting to get taken down isn't really working out that well. Let the fur fly buddy!!

Yep he is doing way better than anyone expected.

Yea...he is not an uncontested hole in the lineup. Don't understand the fading as of late. Also, throw the 5th year senior stuff out the window. He is a first year starter and has had three close matches with good competition...two of which he could have won.

Holloway is not making 197 anytime soon. He is huge and obviously on full feed

Just watched Brooks match again. Wow came out tough and just kept attacking. Totally put Martin in defense mode, and your right, Martin could have been called a couple of times. I hope Meyer was watching.

It's weird. Meyer and Brooks are like Jekyll and Hyde from one week to the next. At least we can always count on Sammy to get after it.
