tOSU Grades Chief I got it! Lol

Just watched Brooks match again. Wow came out tough and just kept attacking. Totally put Martin in defense mode, and your right, Martin could have been called a couple of times. I hope Meyer was watching.

Saw that too. Of course I care if Sammy does well at the NCAAs but if he comes out and wrestles like that each match, I'll be proud of him no matter the results.

I just rewatched it myself and what I'm wondering is how Martin didn't get called for stalling in the 2nd when they were close to ob and Martin stretches his arm so his hand went onto the floor. That's textbook

Edit: I'll also add that the crowd gets an A+. CHA was loud and rowdy!

I wonder if a few of our guys have come to trust too much in their conditioning to snatch victories in the 3rd period. It, of course, doesn't always work that way, especially not against AA caliber competition

hope not - that seems like the ryan boringstar approach to wrestling. Need to get on 'em early and the third should be a chance to open up the score.

Yeah - i was wondering if he was going to be gun shy after last week - considering he was facing the 2016 champ. Still came out tough with the guns out of the holsters and bullets flying. Loved it

lost to #1, #12 and # 14 by a total of 5 points I believe. If we have someone better, get him out there.
I think this comment is for Christopher? Iowa may have someone better - but at this point it is best to go with Carton for the sake of the future. Christopher needs to get to NCAAs and win 2-5 matches. Hope he can get hot and AA - not impossible at all. Actually he did lose to 2 #1's this season.

sorry, drawing a blank, Other than Heil who was the other?

"149: B+/A- (89-90%) solid match. Sorensen proved he's on a different level from Jordan which is the grade boost but where was that offense from last week? Micah was never close to scoring but we didn't do much on offense"

I agree, but when has Sorensen ever been aggressive with scoring attacks and demonstrated any offense? He makes Duane Goldman look like a scoring juggernaut.

IF we did not have Ryan on our staff you can kiss The Bull, Kemdawg,Young any chance we have at Sasso good bye! Be careful slamming Star...

In BPHawkeye's defense, Morning* was not much for scoring and creating a fast paced exciting match. I think the dig was on the style of wrestling, and had nothing to do with Morning*'s recruiting success. Btw, I think Jody Strittmatter may be our greatest asset when it comes to recruiting.

False about Jody. YG have been around for while now and IOWA has just got that pipeline going the last two years. Jody has sent YG kids all over the nation, 6 to PSU! Pretty low blow on Jody Bman, he's a class act and in no way pushes his kids to one school or another.

Let's see...Iowa has one YG's guy starting, PSU has Guilbon, Nolf, Cenzo, and McCutcheon. I'd say Jody has done alright by PSU as well.

Star should be recruiting coordinator. Assistant head coach like Perry or Taylor paid top notch to roll and technique IMO to compliment TNT. Perfect world.

Exactly this. I have always wondered that too. Lose by 1 or 7...doesn't matter. At least TRY for a TD...
The point would be, if you are within a point, a good and set up take down attempt, can win the match. A poor attempt and your pretty much done. If you noticed Colton went after him the entire last 25-35 seconds and did get in but couldn't finish, although looking at replay it was close.

edquin06, You accuse me of a low blow? What low blow? ("...he's a class act and in no way pushes his kids to one school or another.")? Yet, you are the one who stated, he sent 6 to PSU... That sounds like a comment that is way easier to jump to a conclusion that a club coach pushes/influences kids to one college or another. I never said he "pushed" kids or influenced kids to one school over another. I just stated he may be our greatest asset when it comes to our recruiting. Kemerer, Lee, Teasdale all coming from Young Guns has certainly helped our recruiting classes. Strittmatter churns out great wrestlers. I did not say anything about him pushing kids to one place vs another. Relax.

I also think that the more talent in the room, the more you'll think M* isn't a half bad assistant.
It is sad how the last couple of years several loud mouth posters wanted M* gone. One of their reasons was because of the boring style he was teaching the 157 and 165 guys. Where are they now? Does he get credit for Kemdawg since he got all the blame for Cooper and Kelly? Will he get the credit for the Bull and Young? We all know those posters already moved to a new subject to complain about.

Star should get a lot of credit for recruiting and bringing the Hawks into the 21st century in the recruiting game.

Plus, M* is just starting to get his guys in, slowly but surely. I think all who used to wrestle are aware of our own deficits as a wrestler. None more than a high level guy who didn't complete his goals. It's nice having a three timer and Olympic champ as a head coach but it's also nice having guys who know what bitter taste like.

When i saw the pace he was bringing right off the bat instead of feeling him out, I knew he was going to win the match. That was great intensity by Sammy all 7 minutes and a great win over a national champ. If he wrestles like that every match at NCAAs I see no reason why he couldn't be 3rd with an outside chance at 2nd.

Even when the outcome was clearly in doubt midway thru the match, I thought Sammy was wrestling extremely well (for him) to that point.

Sammy has a lot of good wrestling traits, and he isn't afraid to mix it up with anyone. He certainly isn't a staller. I think more than anything his mind gets in his way from time to time, but he CAN be tough as nails quite often. He's just a bit inconsistent, and this late in the game it appears he's going to end his Iowa career that way. He's entertaining though, gotta give credit where it's due.

FWIW, I was confused by eq's response too.
