Tough day inside for our Bigs

I think that's where we lost tonight. Kriener needs to get stronger and play with an edge, but has the better size/length to play inside. Garza coming in should help and also with their ability to shoot outside it may pull opponents bigs out to guard them. This could help Cook and Pemsl play the 4 more often next year and maybe give them more space to operate. I'm not through with this year but I'll be looking forward to next year and playing in the NCAA Tourney.

To clarify this year's NIT appearance, NCAA Tourney this year has come and gone as far as the Hawkeyes are concerned I'm afraid.

Bigs got too deep tonight and were trapped under the basket or when they were in space they were forced to try to back down larger players because our screeners were late and our guards weren't hitting so Indiana clogged the passing lanes and were quick to double team forcing our guys into tough spots.

Cook had a bad game and it happens with freshman. Bryant is a tough match up for him now. He's had some good games and will get stronger and more confident.

Wagner is just a tweener playing post. The kid is 6-7 and trying to battle guys who are 6-10! He has no inside moves or outside shot.

Pemsl is a solid player, but when he goes up he has to draw contact. He can't out jump or out athletic the other teams bigs. He has to George Niang for his points.

The problem is we don't have a legitimate "Big." We have two quality "4s", but not a dominate, athletic 6'10" center. I'm talking about a ball rejecter-put back guy who can play above the rim. We don't have one coming either, but they are hard to find.

I agree with you but will add that while our two 4's have been solid this season it also hurts the team that neither of them has a solid mid range jumper yet. Im really hoping one if not both can work on a mid range jumper which does wonders in the college game. Having two 4's with only a paint game and no legit 5 really makes some games uphill battles.

Cook- Work on your 15ft jumper. He is athletic enough to pull his defender away with a jump shot, he could go right around them. He has the handles and athleticism to do that.

Pemsl- Work on pump faking and also jump shot. He is a crafty player who knows how to use his body. IF he develops a 15fter he will be a very good player.

Kriener- Get stronger and use your shooting stroke to your advantage. He could be a solid player, but needs to be stronger with the ball and also work on his defense. It will come for him.

Wagner- Needs to develop something. His game is not working, he is a freak of an athlete, but his limit is 3ft shooting. He's only 6-7 and in the lane against the big boys is tough. I would like to see him develop a "wing" style of game. I just don't think you can play him at the 5 spot.

Uhl- Needs to find himself. If Im fran I have a long talk wit him about the off-season. This kid has potential, but boy he took a MAJOR step back this year. 3rd year guy in the program and he looks like a freshman is not what you want to see.

Overall our post players are solid, but they each have to develop something in the off-season. We have too many guys with the same intangibles. Need to get some variety in there otherwise teams will just sag off and clog up the lane.

I love Cook and his athleticism/aggressiveness to the hoop. That said, once he develops a bit of finesse, a pump fake, etc., he is going to be even tougher to deal with.
