I liked that Iowa got two firsts at the Drake Relays and as far as I can tell, the other D1 schools in Iowa did not get any.

I'm a track fan and wish there were others on here. If there are others, let me know if I was wrong in my first sentence.

Much of the women's team members that placed high were freshman/sophomores. They've retooled the sprints squad and taken some of the focus from distance as it had in the past (women's distance wasn't particularly strong aside from 1-2 standouts each year). They need to play to their strengths which are the groups coached by Cappos, Roberts, and Woody.

Mens team needs to be well-rounded with talent in all events to be in the hunt for future Big Ten titles. I was a little disappointed with James Harrington, but it's still early on for him. Drew Clark, from football, is on the team this year too.

I'm here to give a little credit to the women's track team with three firsts at the conference meet and a fourth place finish. The men got one first, but that was a good one, the 4 x 100 relay. Congrats.

Sure is hard to find anything about this, outside of the Hawkeye sports website. DI would probably have something, but I think they're done for the summer.

The Iowa men's 400meter relay team set a school record and qualified for the finals. What's notable is that all the other teams that qualified for the finals were southern or western, that is, if Western Ky is considered southern. And two of the runners for Iowa were from Iowa high schools.

Hawk 12345, what will your daughter be competing in, area-wise, sprints, distance, or hurdles?

woody is new director of track and field/cc. I assume he'll now hire a men's xc coach. would love it if he replaced lane as well.

How many scholarships does track and field have? Probably not very many for the number needed for a full track team. Obviously they have to be split up among the athletes. Woody said UNI offered him a full scholarship back when he started his college career, but UNI would have the same number of scholarships as any other school, so you think they really must have wanted him. But a full scholarship to one means fewer or smaller partials for the others.

But yeah, happy for the hire.

Not sure on the number of scholarships, but yeah, Woody was a pretty amazing athlete coming out of high school. He was a stud in the 400, 400 hurdles, and 800. Those events can score you a lot of points as an individual and on relays.

Didn't he miss the state championships his last year due to some sort of injury and City won anyway?

My daughter will be running track at Iowa this fall.
Congrats to your daughter. You didn't mention if she earned a scholarship but either way, she must be quite talented to make a B10 squad. I ran distance races in college (not at Iowa) way back when and can attest to the time and effort it takes to compete. The main thing is to limit the injuries. Best of luck.
