TRAM to UNC

Chapel Hill is a pretty sweet landing pad. Plus, Carolina Bar-B-Cue and Mama Dip's Soul Food right on campus.

Yep, Scott and Ramos are going to have that one humming in no time. The big recruits already have then on the radar, won't be long before they start committing.

The ones I feel sorry for are the current paid assistants, their time is numbered. Ramos is going to be a good one.

And with the ease of taking african american study ghost classes, they won't have to go to class and can focus on wrestling 24/7........We are screwed......

Any chance UNC tries to poach one of our lightweight recruits now? How do they look at the lower weights?

I'm just spitballing here, but given the fact that Lee and Teasdale both committed after the trials fiasco and the fact that Lee mentioned in his letter Tom and Terry as specific reasons for coming to Iowa and the other recruits are excited for Lee and Teasdale...I'm not worried.

Say what meow?!
It was a joke regarding the current issues with UNC and their allegations regarding the athletic department. Nothing more. I love Tony Ramos as a Hawkeye and will support him as long as it isn't against our own.

I'm sure it will be rocking in Chapel Hill like College Park on a good night. Every top lightweight would love to wrestle in that environment.

Between Coleman Scott and Tony they'll definitely attract some good 25s and 33s, but I doubt any of ours- maybe Renteria if any one because of their Glenbard ties.

North Carolina isn't Iowa. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. That said, wrestlers go everywhere and for different reasons, but I doubt we'll be losing too many head to head recruiting battles with UNC.

Plus they got that transgender bathroom thing going on so...................;)

I prolly missed it, but is he still planning on competing yet or is he all in on the coaching aspect?

Renteria is the one I am thinking also.

I would be pretty surprised. I know he and Tony were close but I do know he is pretty committed to being a Hawk. Plus, its a short trip for his family to come see him wrestle...they could come to every home dual and most of the B1G.

Thanks for the memories Tony! At this point though, I'm not rooting for him or against him. To me, he's the same as Davis, Zakesky, Tom Ryan, Mark Perry, Zadick, DSJ etc.

I wish him and his family well, but hope he is irrelevant when it comes to competing with Iowa.

i'm greedy brother, don't want to lose any of these guys. I know they are close size wise, but they are all unique and bring something I would like on the team.

From Iowa Wrestle Article:

In addition to Twitter reactions Lee’s fellow 2017 recruiting class members also weighed in on the topic with Illinois state champion Jason Renteria saying, “I am really excited to start getting ready with Lee, Justin Mejia, and also Teasdale when he gets to Iowa. We’re only going to make each other better and better. We’re coming soon. I can’t wait to see an Iowa vs the World now. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

That doesn't look to me like he's going to UNC or anywhere else anytime soon..................

You'd think that UNC would have something on their wrestling Web in regards to Ramos. Rev Wrestling isn't showing anything along with the Open Mat. All I know is that they have Joey Ward at 141# coming back. Maybe it's just to early.

I think the weights work themselves out. JRent and Mejia are bigger than Lee and Teasdale is a year behind them. The fur is going to fly. Imagine those Hawk stacked lightweight brackets at Midlands!

Couldn't be happier for Tony. He wanted out of Iowa and landed a coaching job and a hell of a training partner in Scott. Pretty crazy that Ramos is the one that "retired" Scott a couple weeks ago and now Tony is working for him. Like I said, I'm happy for Tony.

It would be cool if Happel can grow into a 149. That way, if you manage the redshirt years carefully, and assuming at least one of the 4 you mentioned could wrestle well at 141, all of them could have 3-4 years in the line up. Wagner is not as decorated a wrestler, but I expect him to be competent, too

Possibly the greatest wrestling photo of all time. Tony taking down Oliver right at the very edge of the mat (where else would an OSU wrestler be?), TnT animatedly calling for two and forming a "V" shape with Oliver and Ramos at the vertex, Zadck in all black, going out of his mind, at the top of the diamond. In the distance, just over Terry's shoulder, you can see Mike Duroe pumping his fists, and then you have the joyous reactions of the fans in the seats, including the priceless figure of the guy with glasses with his arms raised, ready to high five anyone who would face him. The look of disbelief in Oliver's face says it all. The picture should be on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel it's so good.

Who is at UNC for Tony to train with other than Coleman Scott? I don't see him making another world team.

Do any of you think this was already in the works before the Olympic Trials?? Only reason I ask is that I've never seen Tony give someone he wrestled against an extra handshake, a hug and compliments after the match like he did with Coleman.

In his post tournament press conference he said he already had offers / options. Whether that was UNC or elsewhere, we probably won't know.

To be honest, I think it is about time someone combined the OSU room and training and technique with the Iowa style of training and technique. Congrats for Coleman Scott for putting this together and good luck to UNC.

It seems like it is a better approach to include all styles and get a hybrid style.
