Ok, there was a thread talking about Iowa players in the NBA. We havent had many, but Freddie Brown was mentioned quite a bit as being Iowa’s top NBA. Nope!!! There’s a player that came to Iowa, and had a sensational NBA. You could argue he was the most talented recruit in the history of Iowa basketball. Who is he?

he was an NBA coach for over 30 years

Ok....this is tougher. Who are the two most decorated athletes to come out of the state of Indiana to have fabulous professional careers? Ok....duh....one is Larry Bird. But the other is considered to be the greatest of all. SSGT....if you get this one, you will become my sports trivia idol....lol

I agree. Nelson put up better numbers in the NBA, but what a talent (wasted away for the most part) Hawkins was.

Ok, here’s a clue to the Indiana great. He was nicknamed “The Great One.” No, it isn’t Jim Nabors.

Probably not the answer you’re looking for, but Don Mattingly deserves a shout-out.

Are we talking any sport of basketball? Because Oscar Robertson is from Indiana, though he was on Bird's level and wasn't nicknamed The Great One.

If any sport, there was a swimmer from there who had the US record for Olympic gold medals before Phelps, but I don't remember his name.

Oscar Robertson was sensational. In his rookie season, Robertson averaged 30.5 points, 10.1 reboundsand 9.7 assists (leading the league), almost averaging a triple-double for the entire season.

But that’s not correct...but a really good guess. Another clue: Ice

Gretzky started his pro career in Indianapolis. They traded him and then folded the franchise later that same year.

Ok, he's not from Indiana though. "Come out of Indiana" suggests being from there, not hanging up skates there once.

The question was worded “to come out of the state of Indiana.” The doesn’t necessarily mean a native of Indiana. Yes, it is Gretzky. Played for a minor league team in Indianapolis. Then went immediately to professional hockey. I’d say he was pretty decent....lol

I just came out of Missouri last week. Was down there buying cheap cigarettes for my girlfriend

That wasn’t a fair question LOL.

That’s like saying Greg Maddux was the best to come out of Iowa because he spent a little time with the I-Cubs in the mid 80s.

Eric Davis came out of the Cedar Rapids Reds. And Kris Bryant came out of the Iowa Cubs
