This is why the democrats are losing.

Trump doesn’t give AF about tradition, decorum, laws, optics, etc. He’s been in office a week and he’s throwing around EOs like he’s a damned king.

Biden had 4 years to protect democracy and he did nothing. These things should have been at the top of his list:

—Making sure Trump faced the legit charges against him, in an expedited timeline, to ensure he couldn’t run out the clock. Being found guilty on some of the charges would have disqualified him from running.

—Statehood for Puerto Rico and DC.

—Eliminating the electoral college.

—Adding seats to the Supreme Court.

—Repealing Citizens United.

—Capping private campaign contributions.

—Making lobbies illegal.

—Eliminating the filibuster.

—Term limits for congress.

—Finding a solution for gerrymandering.

These might sound radical, but it’s no less radical than the sh*t Trump is pulling right now. Accomplishing these things would have protected democracy for years.

What a stupid take. This is on the GOP and his idiot voting base wanting to be anti American.

Don't look know but the GOP is loving how things are looking.
Give it time. Biden had a high approval rating for weeks after his inauguration.

Panama, Greenland, putting a few troops at the border are just distractions to throw red meat at the base. The question will be can Trump improve the lives of swing voters. Are they making more money, is the stuff they buy cheaper, do they have an easier life?

I don’t see any path in his current policies that will affect their lives positively. But he promised them he would improve things. People will give him some time, but he damn well better act on things that matter or his rating will be right back in the gutter at somewhere between 30-35% approval - just like Biden and just like his last term.

Your complaint is that Biden didn't act autocratic like Trump?

This is kind of my point. You’ve got Trump on one end of the spectrum, at almost fully autocratic, while Biden is at the opposite end, so paralyzed by bad optics, and catering to vocal minorities that he does absolutely nothing. He needed to be more in the middle—not afraid to do the things that might have rocked the boat or pissed some people off.

Yes, a little sprinkle of autocracy might have helped Biden get some sh*t done.

No doubt this is a honeymoon and we are going to start getting to topics that fracture the party eventually. That being said, it's much easier to pull breaks than speed up.

The tariff thing is where the rubber will hit the road I think. Most businesses don’t want tariffs. I was at a gathering of business leaders Thursday night and the number one topic everyone was talking about is how they are preparing for tariffs. All of them I talked to said they are planning to pass the costs along to the consumer. These folks tend to lean conservative and none of them are happy about the tariff thing (regardless of Dimon saying “get over it”).

The showdown will be between grassroots MAGA and classic business conservatism. It will be interesting to watch how the Trump admin threads that needle. My money is on him f*cking it all up.

I think you need to take a civics course to help you understand how our government works.

Almost all of those were impossible for a president to do without a mandate and huge control of Congress. However, the first one on list is Biden’s second biggest failure as a president.

His three biggest failures in my opinion (and why his legacy and ranking as a president will never be great) are:

1) Deciding to run again
2) Not using January 6 to ensure Trump was done forever and something like that never happened again (related, choosing Garland as a feckless AG)
3) Not going all in on Ukraine and having Putin and Russia stuffed in a box by end of 2023, unable to still **** around with western politics and help Trump.

He was too nice and gave way too much benefit of the doubt and did the wrong thing running again.

So Biden failed because his assassins were good at killing innocents rather than their target?
Xi and Putin agree with you.

Many of those things were blocked by Republicans but your overall point is correct. Democrats play too nice and Republicans thank them for it. NO WAY should Trump not have been punished for 1/6. Biden was worried about optics when MAGAs couldn't care less, especially when right wing media was lying to them that Biden was using "lawfare", lol he wasn't. Eliminating Trump from public life, along with his enablers in Congress, should have been priority 1-20.
