Same here. My dad was in Col. Reed’s 2nd Cav under Patton. Joined after Normandy but saw lots including the pivot and race to Bastogne. Broke his wrist in Czechoslovakia and missed out on rescuing the Lipizzaners. He never once spoke about the horrors he must have seen but did make self-deprecating jokes about his service as a radioman. Patton is the only movie he ever took me to see.
