President Donald Trump on Thursday again raised the prospect of serving for an unconstitutional third term, asking a crowd at a White House event whether he should run again and receiving audience chants of “Four more years!”

The suggestion followed a stretch of days in which Trump referred to himself as a king and quoted a dictator in suggesting that he was immune from following laws — all while his administration has continued pushing the bounds of presidential power.

Trump’s escalating rhetoric stoked further alarm among critics who say he is governing with an authoritarian playbook and fear he could attempt to seize power undemocratically, as he attempted to do after losing the 2020 election. The Constitution’s 22nd Amendment limits presidents from holding the office more than twice.

Trump’s suggestion before attendees of a Black History Month reception came after he mentioned “the next time” in a seeming reference to running again. He then cut off his own sentence to ask the audience if he should run another time. Met by shouts of affirmation, Trump basked in the attention, laughing and waving a hand at the audience.

“There’s your controversy right there,” Trump responded, chuckling. “You’re going to see that tonight, Tim, on television,” referring to Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), who was in the audience at the reception.

Hours later, former Trump adviser Stephen K. Bannon led an audience to chant “We want Trump!” referring to the 2028 election while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Baltimore.

“We want Trump in ’28,” Bannon said. “That’s what they can’t stand. A man like Trump comes along only once or twice in a country’s history. Right? We want Trump!”

Trump is a power-mad egomaniac who thinks he is king.
However this toxic emperor wannabe is quickly wearing
out the American people. His Executive Orders are defying
the U.S. Constitution. Hopefully, he will not live long enough
to finish his current term. He is the worse President in history.

It's the least we can do after the way he was phuckedover in 2020!!

4 years from now is a longtime, Let see how popular he is in a year. A year or two should give a pretty good barometer on how his policies are affecting people either good or bad. People are getting a very large dose of Trump chaos right out of the gate, The public seemed to tire of it in his first term. Let’s see how they feel about his chaos on steroids after some time passes.

No. I wouldn’t. But I don’t have to worry about it. You didn’t answer my question.
LOL, sure you wouldn't.
Will he try to run again? Yes. Who is going to tell him no? He's floating all of this for a reason.
What astounds me is the ability of Trumpers to tell us Trump will never do something after he tells us exactly what he's going to do. He then does that thing, they justify it somehow, then repeat the cycle.

Willing to bet me on that? I find that democrats typically don’t even believe their own garbage.
Things the MAGA Idiot Brigade said would never happen:

1. Trump wouldn’t contest the 2020 election results should he lose.

2. Trump would never gaslight his supporters and incite violence.

3. Trump would never refuse to participate in the peaceful transfer of power.

4. Trump would never be convicted of a felony.

5. Trump would not try to run again in 2024, so people should stop talking about him so he will go away.

6. Trump would never try to undermine or rewrite the Constitution via executive order.

7. Trump would only target people here illegally.

8. Trump would never threaten our allies or talk about taking over sovereign nations.

9. Trump would never undermine judicial order.

10. Trump would never try to stay in power or run for a third term.

🙄 What an awesome track record you guys have.

This may be more about him quelling any discontent from Republican legislators that might object to some of his policies

Put a thought in their minds that they need his endorsement in future elections or he will recruit primary opponents.

He's not even the worst president of this year...let alone in history. Check the polls buddy...all he does is Win Win Win, so keep crying

To answer your question, he will make every effort he can to run for a third term and his gang of acolytes will do everything to oblige. The silver lining is that if he somehow enables a third term, there is another guy that would also be able to run for a third term that would absolutely kick his ass.

My understanding is the Tennessee congressman that is pushing the bill to allow Trump to run again has it set up so it only allows someone to run for a 3rd term IF they didn't serve 2 consecutive terms. Basically because he knew Obama would be a rather popular choice if he wanted to run again.

If Trump is the candidate for the 3rd term for the GOP whoever the Democratic nominee is needs to take the stance that any vote for him is not a valid vote because Trump is ineligible. When the right wing propaganda tries to justify his run the only answer that needs to be provided is that an amendment needs to be passed to repeal the 22nd amendment and that has not legally been done. They need to run their campaign as though they have already won the election and be nominating cabinet positions in October. When the Supreme Court tries to rewrite the Constitution the candidate needs to state that any Trump appointed member is not legitimate and they will not accept rulings from them. When both candidates try to declare victory the Democratic candidate needs to be prepared to defend their position and not accept any 3rd Trump term.

Yes, that likely means civil war, but at that point, that is literally the last opportunity to continue having the Constitution as a governing document. Defend it or get purged, because a 3rd Trump term will involve removal of "enemies".
