They should have canceled tonight's RNC events and focused the full power of the presidency on the weather disaster unfolding in Louisiana. They could have put the pre-recorded, minor speakers online. Anyone deemed important could be moved to tomorrow.
Trump could have spent the night looking like a president. Work with the governors of LA and TX to stage the national guard to quickly move into areas where they are needed. He could be whipping up a FEMA response with temporary housing moving that direction. He could be meeting with the leaders of the Red Cross and private business on how those impacted are going to be taken care of. He could have acted as if he was organizing a response by utility companies across the country who will be moving to the impact zone as soon as safe. Some are on the way now.
I am sure all this is happening behind the scenes, but when you are entering the home stretch of a presidential campaign, acting like a president is the best thing you can do to win a second term. Trump blew it.
