Trump inaccurately states drug prices are 3x cheaper in Canada(they are 10x), and once more pushes an "import plan" that Canada has never agreed to

Which drugs is he talking about? Which are you talking about? The price differential varies greatly— some no price difference some 20x.

Why do we need to pay the markup of importing from another country?

Just let Medicare negotiate pricing; insurers will follow.
When Big Pharma doesn't net its 10x-20x markups on Americans and American insurers, they'll hike Canada's prices by 3-4x to make up the lost revenues. Then the rest of the countries can pay their fair shares instead of getting freebies while Americans pay rigged rates.

The problem is an American problem. Starting January 2021 Canada is removing the US and Switzerland (the two most expensive countries) from it’s country rating system used to establish drug costs. So that gap, if you want to claim 3x or 10x, is going to get a hell of a lot bigger.
